i'm in the reggie is overrated camp. not to say he isnt awesome and a great shooter, but it seems like every year he played there were at least 3-5 other sgs that were better.

prototypical in the sense that he was a "shooting" guard who could really "shoot". however, his handle was never great, he didnt really create much for others, never really rebounded at a high rate for his position and was never considered a great defender at his position. his reputation grew exponentially because of his late game heroics in the playoffs, which many happened against the knicks, so you had tons of NYC media writing about it. in terms of needing someone to make a jumper at the end of a game its hard to find someone you would trust more than reggie. for that he deserves high praise.

I bet that if someone did some analysis on this Reggie would have the least impressive resume All-NBA team-wise out of everyone in the Hall of Fame. Seriously, how lowly does three Third All-NBA teams sound!? He played for a team that was specifically constructed so it could fit Reggie's style of coming off screens and actually I have to give him props for that - the Pacers had some late playoff exits for a team that relied solely on a shooter. But it makes me wonder whether a guy like Mitch Richmond could actually be a hall of famer if he had a team as suitable as Reggie's... Your first reaction might be - what? Richmond a Hall of Famer!? And rightfully so. But if you think about it - is Reggie actually a better player than Mitch? Couldn't Mitch keep that Indiana team around the second round every year? For one thing - Richmond also made three Third All-NBA teams..... but he also has a couple of Second All-NBA teams to his name.

Miller is the perfect fit for my team and a perfect wing for Scottie. Not to mention he averaged 30+ PPG during multiple playoff series and is about as clutch as clutch can be and would have won at least one NBA title if it weren't for MJ.

And aren't we going by individual years and not careers? I thought that was the whole point of the year thing. There aren't better shooters than what Miller was that year

Ehh I don't know that I'd go that far
51.4
41.4 (on 4.4 shots)
86.8
is phenomenal, don't get me wrong.
But Bird arguably had three better seasons himself (52.2/42.7/88.2), (52.5/40.0/91.0), (52.7/41.4/91.6)
Nash went nuts a few years back for 53.2/45.5/89.9 and in that same year, Dirk went for 50.2/41.6/90.4

I think he'll drop way lower than he should just because he's such a controversial figure who at times showed no ability of playing team basketball. But at some point somebody will pick him just because he's way more talented than the other guys available.
Its the team play that scares me away from Iverson. His best play was with a bunch of defensive role players where he was allowed to keep chucking. Take him away from that and it never seemed to work out.

Right he never had point guard handles or passing (that's what point guards have), and he didn't rebound too good (that's what centers and forwards do). But he has the size to defend the 2 at least adequately if not well, and the clutchness is something that you always want a 2 guard to have. Kobe.... MJ... Jason Terry... The clutchest, most reliable playoff guys seem to be 2 guards, yeah? Just because they're such threats to score and can't really be doubled because they are nimble enough to either break it or pass.
But basically, the things you truly NEED from a shooting guard are the ability to move off ball and knock down spot up/curls/cuts, keep the plays moving with passing, and someone to shoot late in the clock who isn't the point guard. If you have those things, and the other players on your team are solid at their positions, you won't want for anything. And when you think about it you'll know what I mean, why should you need a ball dominant 2 guard when you already have an elite (top 10 of all time, probably) point guard?

According to the guy who made the post, me. If you'd like to disagree, and say something different, that's cool too I'd like to hear it.

"you truly need" sounds awfully definite and more than a simple opinion.
Besides, you seem to have plenty of time to argue the finer points of positional necessity and hierarchy, so why did you back out of the draft?

Because there's much less pressure, I can enjoy looking at lineups without thinking about how to beat them, and I thought someone who has been here a while deserved the spot over me.
And I don't think you can get much more than "simple opinion" on such matters.

Re: Scavenger Hunt Draft - Fred's Pick
I think the hate for Miller stems from his broadcasting career afterwards. The man carried a mediocre Pacers team year after year and dominated in the playoffs. Doesn't matter, I was stoked to get him to pair with Scottie, ya bunch of haters

You need a guy in the starting line up who can score more than 50% of the time every time you run a play for him. Good pick up.

I can as well say that he was forced to chuck, who else would the team want taking the shots?
Another thing, look at how terribly his team is built around him.Ideally you want shooters spreading the floor for Iverson, but from 98-02(5 damned years) the Sixers were,at their best,2nd-to-last in 3pt made among all teams.Had the team been respectable from outside I say people will not call AI a chucker .
That's not saying he is totally free from the chucking though, but way less then the general fans would believe.

how is that if the Bulls faced Reggie's Pacers in the playoffs only once? And in game 7 when they had the chance to advance to the finals and had a big fourth quarter lead they choked while the injured and old Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen despite their problems from the field willed themselves to victory by getting to the line.
The Pacers were good, but they weren't good enough for an NBA title. Even if you think they were, MJ had nothing to do with them not winning.
