NBA Talent Evaluators Express Pessimism About 2013 Draft
Top talent evaluators from around the NBA expressed pessimism about the 2013 draft in general and the No. 1 pick in particular.

"I'd trade the pick for sure," one NBA GM said. "No one wants to pick first this year -- and no one can live up to the No. 1 billing."

"It's the worst it's ever been," said another.

"I'm glad we won't be picking at the top," added one director of player personnel.

Cody Zeller is the consensus choice for the top spot, even though he possesses short arms and plays subpar defense.

"He'll never be a great NBA player," one NBA scouting director said.

Aww hell naaw. This upcoming draft class is as weak as I proclaimed it to be during the summer. Let's just go for the playoffs this year!!!

This is the year that we get the number one pick for sure! :waaa:

But then again with the outrageous play Kemba has been putting out Big Z2.0 might be able to surprise some folks. :dontknow:

This is definitely not the year to tank. I'll take as many victories as we can get even if we fall short of the playoffs and consider it as a moral victory since we won't have to deal with the expectations of a top pick not living up to his draft position and being labeled a bust. The last thing we need is people laughing at us again.

The difference in building confidence with 40 wins is more important than only having 20 wins to draft a Mullens-like player and be back in the same scenario for the 2014 draft. Actually the 2014 draft is where it's at. Wiggins, Jabari, Randle, etc

Seems like this draft class is getting poopooed already though

As it stands right now, I'm all for trading our pick for a 2014 1st.

we'd have to get a little more value than that, given the transient nature of a team's draft ranking

I think this might be one of those years where the best players fall 5-10. Players like Marcus Smart, Alex Poythress, Alex Len, and Glen Robinson might end up the class of this draft. Players projected late like Tim Hardaway and Lebryan Nash could emerge as well.

My goodness McLemore is going to be a special player. He already has 15/5 for 5 minutes left in the first half against Colorado.

He's been all over the floor, diving for balls, attacking the rim, beating guys off the bounce. Awesome athlete who has looked good on defense too. And I'm a sucker for a pretty jumper.

He's moved his way into my top 3

Today has been awesome for me. So many games to watch as I had nothing to do today other than type up some papers and go running.

Kansas vs Colordado
As I already said, McLemore looks like a top 3 pick. He finished the game with 24/5/2/2 and was all over the place. This is a guy who could be a special player between Kemba and MKG. I couldn't find a weakness in his game at all, theree is just so many things he excels at.

NC State vs Cleveland St
CJ Leslie looked good and has continued his solid play all year long. Finished with 19/8 and was clearly more athletic than his peers but I'm just not seeing a place for him on our team. I can't tell if he's a wing or a big and it doesn't look like he can either. His perimeter skills aren't there enough for me to play him as a big SF but he's not big enough to play as a true post. Good player, but not on my radar.

Rodney Purvis (the guy many seemed to be hyping before the season) had another meh game. 11/4 but shot 3/8 from the floor and didn't really stand out to me.

TJ Warren continues to look good. I was disappointed when he picked State over UNC and for good reason. Probably won't enter the draft this year unless he really blows up but remember his name for next year.

Michigan vs Arkansas
Once again, Burke/Hardaway/Robinson just had their way with the opposition. Still a huge fan of Hardaway and wish he got more pub. Robinson looked to assert himself more tonight (took 11 shots, making 7) and produced (17 and 6). Still didn't display an advanced offensive game but he's certainly productive.

Duke vs Temple
Mason Plumlee continues to be a double double machine. 16/14 tonight despite not shooting well but he's still hovering around 20/11 for the season. Haven't ever been a fan of his, but he's displayed just about everything you look for in a big man... yes, even some post moves.

Seth Curry had a big day, 23/3 (shot 5-9 from deep). Probably not on our radar but he could be an intriguing 2nd rounder if we pick one up.

Right now
UCLA vs Texas is on ESPN so if you wanted to watch Shabazz and the UNC retreads then you don't wanna miss it

Can't find OK State vs Missouri St but Nash and Smart look like they're continuing to play well.

AND North Carolina is coming up at 7:30, so pull that one up on the TV while you watch the Cats from the first row

This could be a write up from last year replacing "McLemore" with "Beal".

Is there a likeness SWedd? How does McLemore's measurements look eye test wise? Good height? Nice long limbs?

Ben McLemore is theoretically a junior camouflaging as a freshman after doing a year of prep and redshirting last season. He's already 20 years old & will be 21 years old before March Madness. He seems to be a tad undersized as SG. Most sites have him labeled as 6'5", but he looks more like 6'3" when I watch him, maybe because he has a Jamal Crawford body type. McLemore is a standout talent in the dull NCAA, but I would like to see more dominance from him than 16 points per game come tourney time being that he's basically a man amongst boys.

He does seem to mirror Beal a good bit but I think he's a bit more explosive of an athlete. They look to be about the same size with McLemore maybe a little taller longer (but he doesn't have Beal's no neck so it may be deceiving).

Would be pretty cool if we picked up the potentially better version of the guy a lot of people wanted last year

Notes: Kansas Coach Bill Self described McLemore the most talented kid he's ever coached. Impressive considering he had Deron Williams at Illinois.

I don't think that we can. I think that our pick belongs to Chicago unless it falls top 12 which it probably will. I think that the only thing we can do is work out a deal with Chicago where we let them get this pick this year for some type of compensation.

Yeah you're right. Can't give up your pick two years in a row like that, and given that we have a hold on one of them.... yup.

I wonder what it would take to get our pick's rights back. I mean we won't lose it this year, and maybe not even next year anyway. I know the Bulls fans value it highly thinking it could be another Derrick Rose in 20whatever, but given our trajectory it looks more like it might turn out to not even be a lottery pick.

CHI is counting on that being a top pick whenever the protection ends so I think the chances of us trading back it our slim.

Yeah but for it to really be a top pick when they get it means we need to get a few really good picks in the next few years first. would you bet on us still being that bad in 2015? 2016? Of course this depends on the protection, I haven't looked at it in a while.

found this on their board, thought I had seen it there:

2012 - Top 14 Protected - Charlotte kept it
2013 - Top 12 Protected
2014 - Top 10 Protected
2015 - Top 8 Protected
2016 - Unprotected

If they want a top pick, it would have to be in 2016. Imagine us getting 3 more lottery picks before 2016, and think "how valuable would that team's pick be". I wouldn't bet on us still missing the playoffs that year...

EDIT: And we have 2 extra first round picks coming in those years from Portland and Detroit.

so I'd ask again, what would it take to get the rights back? Would it be worth pursuing?
