Did we ever get clarification on what the issue was aside from "knee procedure"

What is the situation here?

I don't know what originally happened to him, but it seems like he hasn't played in well over a season, so what is going on? Is there any timetable for his return? Our bench is looking mighty thin right now, so it would be nice to have him back...

I've pretty much accepted he'll never play again.

So for that OCD lesion, did they surgically remove it and he's rehabbing and almost back or are they trying to manage it? I thought I heard he had surgery last season/summer for this but I can't keep track anymore.

It's so Charlotte Hornets that they find a promising two way rotation player, are able to get him a good contract and his knee immediately prohibits him from playing for 2 seasons

Just once will the basketball gods allow this team to have some success

Glad to have you back, Mr. Martin.

Cody Martin had six points, a season-high-tying seven rebounds, four assists, a plus-33 plus-minus and was a massive factor in holding Trae Young and Dejounte Murray to a combined 25 points on 33% shooting (3-of-15 from 3-point).

Not just Miller giving Cody his flowers, but Cliff too for the all the defensive stuff he did against Indy. Phenomenal game to hold Trae to a season-low 12 points. Obviously don't want him starting at point long term, but for 7.5M if you can guard the other team's best offensive threat and shut them down, you're highly valuable. Don't understand the hate he garners on this board sometimes.

He should have been starting over Rozier anyways. Hes not ideal as a starter in general, but he has been the best backcourt option to pair with LaMelo on this team for a minute now.

Hes literally the only good point of attack defender they've had the last few years besides DSJ, who is gone now. Hes a smart passer with solid vision. He can put the ball on the floor a bit and make plays with the ball occasionally (in the context of a support role). As long as he keeps hitting the 3 ball at a reasonable clip hes solid enough as a 3&D guy to be their go-to stopper right now against similarly sized players.

Ideally they draft a more talented player to be the 5th starter next season, but right now he should be that guy when healthy. Mann's scoring punch will be needed on the bench units and his lack of size fits better there.

(LaMelo ~ Martin ~ Miller ~ Miles ~ Mark) That should be the starting lineup imo. The four definite rotation pieces off the bench should be (Micic ~ Mann ~ Williams ~ Richards).

The question of the 4th wing in the rotation is a bit tricky. Bertans has been getting those minutes, but he is honestly completely awful. I would rather see Thor get a chance to audition for next years squad in a functional team environment (if they get healthy ever).

Just out of curiosity, do you know how many games Cody and Melo have both been healthy for in the last 2 seasons? I honestly don't remember them playing together at all but maybe that's just my crappy memory.

Very few, but I also think Martin should have been moved to starting lineup over Rozier at some point in the 21/22 season. LaMelo and Martin both played over 70 games that season, but Martin only started a small handful of games as an injury replacement.

11 games? crazy. most of which were one or both players coming back from injury. i am of the belief, that if fully healthy, cody is the best player on the roster to put between melo and miller in the starting lineup. let mann, micic, curry all cook off the bench. but if mann can keep defending well, i can certainly see the value in his rim pressure with the starters. its a nice problem to have. both are better fits than terry.

I agree with everything except Thor. He's particularly useless and should be moved on. We are definitely still short one rotation wing.

This team has 3 of my scouted players on it in Cody, Tre and BM. Although I still love Cody I think we should consider drafting McCullar and moving on.

Martinized - The missing Cody Martin thread

Where the **** is the Cody Martin thread? I went back to the locked We Don't Want The Monk thread (page 12) and didn't see it so I stopped there.

He plays 27 minutes on average yet he's eluded any real focus on his game.

Martin is shooting 38% and 31% respectively.

Will losing offense ever translate to winning basketball here?

You just can't play one-way defensive specialists in the modern NBA and expect to hide that player unless the other 4 starters (including the center) provide above average-elite spacing.

It's a major handicap.

I wouldn't make him a topic if the offense didn't run through him despite his poor shooting.

On the contrary, Clifford gifted Martin a feature role as a ballhandler and playmaker here.

Is that ever going to work with Matk Williams and Nick Richards sharing the floor with Martin?

If not, the new front office needs to acquire a stretch-5. Martin's minutes should be limited/indexed to a big who spaces. I don't care if that piece only plays 7 minutes.

As a frame of reference, Davion Mitchell shoots 43 and 31. He plays half the amount of minutes (13.4).

Monk averages 15.4 points in fewer minutes (26) than Martin, doubling Cody (7.5 points).

Do we have some secret weapon here or does the next coach need to reduce Martin's role?

His numbers in 2021-2022 where he played 70 games were fine. This year he is working his way back from injury and has honestly been out there in some trash lineups a lot of nights. We can just see how it goes moving forward.
