i would hope so. we should keep the bobcats franchise history (as well as also using the charlotte hornets history). it should be charlotte pro honor. i'd love to see muggsy, dell and wallace all have their jerseys retired at time warner arena some day. they can hang with bobby phills in the rafters.

None of those players deserve to have their numbers retired. 1 allstar game between the 3 of them. Never made it past the second round of the playoffs. Might as well retire Matt Carroll's jersey too.

The only one I (maybe) see is Muggsy. He is LOVED here in Charlotte and because of his height and what he had to overcome, I can possibly see that for the fans. But Dell and Gerald? No way.

Well I wasn't really alive, or at least wasn't really into basketball when Dell or Muggsy played. Crash was cool, and definitely led our team for many years. I agree that more success for the team with Crash would cinch him a retired jersey in my mind, but he was all we had for several years.

check out the bobcats records list thread, wallace holds just about every record listed. it will probably be a long time before anyone tops him.

like crunk said, its also relative. if wallace was a laker or a celtic or a knick, then he would just be another solid player, not worthy of retiring, but for the bobcats, he is easily the best player in the history of the franchise and he holds all the records.

sure, all 3 are a bit of a stretch, but it would be fun.

if we wait around for a hall of famer before we retire a jersey, we might be waiting another 40 years.

The only jersey I'd put up is the one that's already retired; Bobby Phills.

I wouldn't complain about Muggsy or Larry Johnson getting it either but neither really deserve it. There are players I would argue deserve it; Glen Rice and Mourning, but not for our team.

I don't agree with having Muggsy retired, but I can see some fans here wanting that. Dell was a very good ROLE player, just like Muggsy. Both aren't jersey retirement worthy. Not even close in my book. Even though Dell is the leader in points, that has more to do with longevity than being a great offensive player.

As for Wallace, uh no. I'd retire Muggsy, Dell, LJ and Mourning before I would raise Gerald's jersey to the rafters.

Relative to the type of players that generally get their jerseys retired. Just because we haven't had anyone better doesn't mean we HAVE to retire somebody's jersey. To put it differently, just because the best of our crap has been an average player historically speaking (Crash), doesn't mean he goes right to jersey retirement.

When we get a truly great player, that's when we'll have somebody who deserves it

Yeah, I'm kinda with Battery on this. Maybe in another 5-10 years I can see start retiring some of those Hornets of yesteryear and Wallace but not anytime soon. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, the longer we wait the more appropriate raising guys like Muggsy to the rafters will seem.

Anybody here old enough to remember when Robert Parish retired as a Hornet? We gave him this big crystal grandfather clock or something in a nice ceremony and he came back and played like 2 years for another team, lol.

It feels like it's about the relation between the team/community and the player. That's why the numbers are retired by the team and not like, the NBA more generally. If it was something the NBA did, I'd agree with you but it seems more about the community than the league.

The TNT broadcast of Parish's record breaking Hornets game when he surpassed Kareem. 42 yo Chief gets the honorary starting nod.

This Hornets team, in the midst of a semi re-build right after dealing Zo was hopelessly outmatched having the misfortune of running into the best team in NBA history, Jordan and the eventual 72-10 Bulls. Too bad they cut the majority of the Hornet's player intros out, they put the Bobcats openings to shame, especially the White Zombie Intrumental they used in the final few years.

At one point the annoucer indicates that this was Charlotte's 313th consecutive sellout (in an arena that seated over 23k no less).
