How far up the sideline can you walk with the ball during a throw in?

Re: OT: soccer thread
Cherundolo, Gooch, and Howard played very well today. DeMerit came out and stuck to Wayne pretty well also.
Central mids today were sort of weak. Clark had a ton of defensive lapses and Bradley was largely invisible. Didn't see much from Landon either other than a couple of good crosses. Wish that Jozy shot would've gone in but I can't be mad at the draw.

Congrats guys, you deserved that draw.
And England, once again, forgot that those guys between the sticks should be able to make a save or two...

Re: OT: soccer thread
What a great result, I was too emotional during the game to have a good idea of exactly who played well and who didn't. I'll watch the game again later and form opinions then...
I don't believe there is a concrete rule. The refs usually will let you sneak up 5-10 feet, occasionally somebody tries to take advantage and the refs make them take the throw again. I'm glad you're watching the games Walt, we can always use some more American fans, don't hesitate to ask any more questions you might have. I can remember when I first got into Soccer during the 2002 WC, it was literally about a year of watching games until I understood the offside rule.
