I'll attribute 80% of that to Lance.

Lance was a net -5.8 per 100 possessions when he was on the floor, by far the worst of those five, and that's softened by us moving him to the bench and his slight improvement in 2015. He was awful when he played with the starters.

We try to blame Al for a lot, some deserving and some not, but it's definitely not his fault that Lance was shooting below 20% from three and below 38% from the field in the month of November.

Lance had one of the worst seasons I've ever witnessed. 80% might be too high, but I definitely give him a majority of the blame for that stat.

Net Ratings for 3-man lineups (300 minutes minimum), Kemba was in 5 of the 6 worst, Lance and Al 4, Marvin 3, and Cody 1.

MKG was the great sanitizer. His worst rating was -3.4 (13th worst) with Al and Kemba. MKG's second worst rating was a positive .1 with Marvin and Kemba, and MKG was in each of the 5 best 3-man lineups

Al, Lance, Marvin -13.3
Lance, Kemba, Marvin -12.6
Gerald, Lance, Kemba -9.9
Al, Lance Kemba - 9.9
Al, Kemba, Marvin -8.3
Al, Kemba, Cody -7.7

So youre of the opinion that the 19 mpg in 64 games Biyombo played is the reason we were #1?

I dont expect too much of a drop off, we improved everywhere else, our backup (and sometimes benched for Maxiell) center is NOT the only reason we are good at that IMO.

But we shall see : P

Moreover, there doesn't seem to be that much correlation between post defense and being good on defense overall. Unfortunately, it's a part of the game that has relatively died out.

Great post defense isn't a bad thing for sure. But efficient offenses are most highly correlated with three point shooting and PnR, so those are the 2 areas where defense matters a lot.

For example, Charlotte's defrtg was around 8 points better when MKG was on the court, less than 4 points better with Biz. Without looking at the details my guess is lots of Biz's defrtg would be attributed to non-post defense.

Is there a way to get single game player tracking stats on NBA.com. Or is it just season?

Believe it's only season based, maybe unless you have an actual SportsVU subscription.

Tracking stats are up though so if you're asking about last night you can get them.

I wanted to see last nights but was hoping to be able to see throughout the season. Oh well.

We should just break down and by a sportsvu pass and share it. Anybody know how much it costs?

They're available but for some reason Miami and Charlotte are incomplete so maybe a data transmission issue for that single game. I did notice some of the Hornets tracking info is there but on the team or player page.

Looked real quick at Aaron Brooks. Chicago played on Tuesday so maybe there's a delay. I did notice the Hornet videos are up though for shots, asists, and turnovers

Playing around with Ortg/Drtg for various 3-man, 4-man and 5-man lineups. A few very obvious things jump out after drilling it down to 3-man lineups.

Top 15 3-man lineups by Ortg feature these players (min 10 minutes):
Marvin 11/15
Batum 8/15
Kemba 7/15
Jefferson 6/15
Lin 5/15
Hairston 3/15
Zeller 2/15
Hawes 0/15

Bottom 15 3-man lineups by Ortg feature these players (min 10 minutes):
Zeller 11/15
Hawes 6/11
Marvin 5/11
Lin 4/11
Batum 3/11
Kemba 3/11
Lamb 3/11
Jefferson 2/11
Hairston 2/11

Quick thoughts:
- Zeller at PF is absolutely sinking lineups right now. His only good minutes have come at C.
- Conversely, Marvin at PF is fantastic.
- However, Marvin at SF is not good, probably has more to do with playing next to Zeller at PF and sometimes Hawes at C, more than anything else.
- Lin and Batum together is producing some good offense.

Best lineup probaby - Kemba, Lin, Batum, Marvin, Jefferson/Zeller
Worst lineup probably - Anything with Marvin, Zeller, Hawes at the same time (especially Zeller/Hawes)

Quite frankly, Clifford may have to bench Cody unless he decides to play him as a center over Hawes (which will all know won't happen).

Lamb and Kemba have only played 5 minutes together so far (and it was a disaster).

btw, Cody doesn't feature any better in 3-man lineups sorted by Dtrg or Net rtg either. He is in the worst 11 lineups for both. Its hard to put into words just how much of an anchor Cody has been so far when he plays at PF.

I hope these Cody numbers are due to whatever illness he is suffering from, otherwise I just can't explain it.

I'd say the biggest reason for Cody's lack of contribution on the offensive end is that we've been playing teams with aggressive PnR defense, which neutralizes his best skill which is diving to the bucket. Also, when he plays next to Hawes, it's usually Hawes that comes out and sets the screen -- often ending in a bad possession or a reset -- and Cody ends up having no meaningful role, aside from trying to pick up leftovers on the offensive boards which isn't easy against Horford/Millsap/Splitter. Cody doesn't seem to have the lower body strength to even win the boxout. Maybe the unusual condition he is suffering from now is a factor, but I think his performance will improve as our schedule moves away from the teams that trap well and have really good help rotations.

Anecdotally, in the miserable 4th quarter of the last game, whenever Hawes set the screen and ended up being the release valve for the trap, the possessions would end badly (because Hawes just doesn't have that David Lee-ish skillset to initiate offense and make decisions from top of the 3pt line). When Cody replaced Hawes in the rotation, Kemba would not use Cody's screens. That happened like twice. I don't know if that was a choice by Kemba's or it was Cliff adapting (finally) to what was happening in the game and telling Kemba to stop using the side PnR. Anyway, the point is, Cody had nothing to do out there as a result.
