There are a few matchups that I like this season coming in. What I mean by matchups are the obvious who will be better...

Bouknight VS Moody

Jalen Green VS Josh Christopher

but one unmentioned VS is Trey Murphy III VS Aaron Wiggins. These are two guys I was really high on this year. Trey eventually got the shine but I feel Aaron has so much value to offer a team. Great size at 6'8. Handles are better than Trey, can shoot even with trey and is a super defender. Here are Aarons summer league highlights so far.

and to think we missed him by one pick at 55. My perfect draft (prior to trades) was

11 - Primo
56 - Sims
57 - Wiggins

Showing up to Summer League without a capable point guard is completely useless. We used to do this all the time in the rich Cho era. Frustrating that we have not learned a lesson from those teams.

This is easily the most negative I've ever seen fats. Every post since draft time has put off serious Eeyore vibes.

You doing alright man?

Lesson I've learned from the MKG/Scottie Pippen looking like a future hall of famer game is not to put that much emphasis on SL whether positive or negative.

Haha... sorry.

You know it's usually my nature to hate all of our draft picks until proven otherwise. It's a rite of passage. I learned my lesson after Raymond Felton and Adam Morrison. Never again.

Other than that, I really didn't care for our offseason. We completely ignored one of our biggest needs, three-point shooting. And with Kai/Thor it feels like MJ and Company are chasing the next Giannis. It's typical for m j, he sees a trend in the NBA and tries to copy it, except the execution is usually flawed and we are usually a few years behind. We shall see.

I'm going to try to not get too worked up about this summer league though. It's hard to really tell anything when the level of point guard play on this team is so utterly miserable.

I was somewhat upset my HORNETS didn't draft Primo but then I realized I am a Spurs fan as well lol. My favorite teams are the HORNETS, SPURS, SUNS AND KNICKS. I am no where near a fan of the others like I am the HORNETS tho... We play the SPURS on THURSDAY at 3:00. I hope Bouknight and Primo play in that game.

I forgot Skylar Mays was on the Hawks. I think his potential is really high.

Fats I understand and agree. Kinda gets back to our second round decision making also. I like Thor at his spot in the draft but was very interested in the PG I’d never heard of…Dwindidle or whatever his name is. I certainly would have preferred a good PG later instead of Lewis (as I felt Lewis was redundant).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The summer league is fun with all the new talent hitting the floor, but what makes it more than a pre-training camp audition for stat hunters or just a testosterone dump for drafted players?

Personally, my expectations are tempered. Some players pop in this environment, others struggle. I argue that guards, particularly ball dominant ones, have the favorable atmosphere. Traditional centers are just doomed.

My eyes look to Greensboro for meaningful player evaluation and development. That's where I begin paying real attention. But for now it's great to simply watch these AAU-style games for what they are - a really fun Vegas show.

Yeah, I kinda sorta have a rule of thumb: If you stink it up in Summer League it means something. If you light it up in Summer League it means nothing. I say 'kinda sorta' as I agree with you that some team/system players are handicapped playing in the 'gonna get mine' ISO ball environment. This said, always a red flag for me if players can't find a way to contribute in summer league - even if it's just boarding bricks or playing D.

EDIT - also agree it can be fun to watch - enjoyed the DET/HOU game last night. Man, Sengun's drives to the hoop are hilariously slow and surprisingly effective.

Some good games on. The first game at 4:00

4:00 - ESPN 2
Bucks - Isaiah Todd, Sandro Mamukelashivilli, Georgios Kalaitzakis
VS
NETS - David Duke

I like this game because Georgios Kalaitzakis is a 6'8 COMBO guard who has a bit of potential. And Sandro Mamukelashivilli can be a bit fun to watch. Also David Duke in that game so a nice low key game to start off the day...

------------------------------
The main event of the day is

8:00 - ESPN 2
RAPTORS - Scottie Barnes, Delano Banton, David Johnson,
VS
WARRIORS - JaQuori Mclaughlin, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody

I actually MIIIIGHT miss this game because I am a fan of MARRIED AT FIRST SITE lmao. But Delano Banton is a 6'9 PG and David Johnson could be a steal. I always thought he had a pro ready game. And JaQuori is in that game as well.

-----------------
In other news I wish we would have held on to Kerwin Roach *SNOOP*. He has been playing decent summer league for the clippers. Good combo guard guy.

my thoughts. leaning towards thinking he should have been our pick at 11.
