I don't know if I want him to be over 7 feet. Minimize the health problems, please. 6'11" would be perfect

he can shrink an inch as far as i care, as long as he develops a 3pt shot.

Fats gets pessimistic up in here

Vonleh was the guy in the top 30 that I researched the least and knew the least about. He didn't have the hype and intrigue of the top 3 guys. He didn't have the resume of the guys who spent more than a year in college. He didn't have the luxury of playing in the tournament and until halfway thru the draft, nobody was talking about him falling to 9, so there was no reason to ever think he would be a Hornet.

It seems this is a classic case of the mock draft sites seeing a player differently than the actual scouts and GMs. Based on the stuff I am reading now, why did those sites have him ranked in the top 5 most of the past few months?

Most of the scouts and "experts" now are saying the same things
- Didn't have a good year at Indiana, outside of rebounding
- Not a great athlete
- Shooting mechanics are very suspect
- Not convinced he will be this 3pt shooter that he was touted to be
- Upside likely as solid starter 3rd, 4th option, not star potential
- Doesn't have mentality to be go-to scorer
- Not in great shape, even during most important month of his young career
- Turnover prone
- Looks better playing against traffic cones than actual people
- Should never have been considered ahead of Randle
- Not competitive enough
- Thinks he can play small forward (said he played point forward in high school - like, which NBA player didnt?)

I guess on the positive side we have these things
- Seems like a great kid
- Massive hands
- Big NBA butt
- Fancy dribbler for his size

Given our god awful track record of developing young projects, I will probably remain very skeptical about Vonleh until he proves me wrong. In the meantime, we need to resign McRoberts and continue to play Zeller and Biyombo ahead of this guy. If and when he is ready for more minutes, he'll need prove it by being so good, it is impossible to keep him off the floor.

I think Vonleh pans out into a solid starter at the least, because he has a couple skill sets that translate no matter what, and that's the ability to shoot with range as a big (because most bigs don't defend out to the perimeter, so he'll have a ample amount of open attempts and time to get his shot off) & above average rebounding skills. From there, it's all about him putting the rest of his game together to become a All-Star caliber player

I can really see him ending up a mountain of a man.

I was thinking the same thing. If he's already sprouted this much recently and is still 18, I wouldn't be surprised to see him put another inch or two on that frame. 7 footer height with the bulk I expect him to put on is going to be a physical force for a long time

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Paul George both added at least two inches of height after their rookie years (both were drafted really young), so it's not out of the question. Wouldn't mind knowing if Biz grew at all after entering the NBA or if he's stuck with the "undersized label" at 6'9. (Not saying he's undersized- his wingspan and standing reach definitely negate his actual height)

Probably true

The guard-to-power-forward thing worked out well for Anthony Davis, maybe Noah is AD-lite?

Noah has pretty good ballhandling for a big man.

Fats I understand your scepticism. If his negatives were that big he would have slid even further. I don't think Cho was unprepared for him, although it would have been best to have held a workout with him. Noah may have not been as prepared for his workouts as he should have, but I don't know what agent he has or what prep work was done in advance. I think it is more about the players taken ahead of him being the player those teams really wanted. Randle was the only 4 taken before him. He has a good NBA body and projects well, but he has multiple question marks too.

Like all these guys the proof is in their careers. By all accounts Noah was clearly BPA at 9 and has the potential to be a quality starter in the new-game NBA. I think the Hornets may envision Cody as our 5 of the future if he can put on the weight to bang. I could see him playing like Al Junior, using old school moves coupled with some pop jumpers to succeed. Vohleh and Cody will probably use this season for further learning and development. But I think they are the Hornets long term front line.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

If I were the Lakers I would've taken Randle over Vonleh as well. Kobe will love Randle because Randle has the killer mindset. They were looking for a potential first option, but that's not what we needed. I hold Randle and Vonleh on about the same level in terms of potential and talent, but I'd take Vonleh for the Hornets over Randle because he's a better fit and because he has the mold of a stretch four that could take us to a whole nother level.

He's a 2-3 year project according to most - but an outstanding project. I think that's why LA passed on him. Orlando wanted a different kind of project to work on in Gordon (who I think is going to be absolutely terrible).

Bigs develop slow so of course people will pile up on him through the course of the year though.

The thing about Randle is that he's going to be a dunk prop for his entire NBA career unless he shatters all expectations. Randle averaging 30 a game is more likely than him ever becoming a quality NBA defender.

And regarding McBob... I'm thankful he was around last year, but he can go. Outside of that playoff series, he looked :noway: for the 2nd half of the year and once Zeller's confidence came up, the team responded better to him. I like the guy, but he's due a handshake from us and that's about it.

One of the silliest things I still hear people say is that WE ABANDONED THE TANK TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS WITH AL JEFFERSON but news-F'ing-flash! We got over 5 lottery picks over the past 5 years on the team and a enough cap space to sign a max contract if we want. At this point I don't think anybody should be bitter that we signed Jefferson because I'm pretty damn sure if we had another top 5 pick in this year's draft instead of #9 that Cho would've took Vonleh there anyway.

Vonleh was a great pick and a steal for us to fall to #9. There's so many ways Cho could use the cap space to acquire more talent like Stephenson in free agency that I can see us being a championship contender in the East as early as next year. This upcoming season will be a year to get some traction and make at least the 2nd round with a strong showing to show people we're serious if we don't go farther. 2016 we should be legit.

Vonleh remind me of Bosh and Favors in a head on collision. I think I'm gonna be a big fan. He's a little raw but I think he'll have one of those rookie seasons where he show more flash of stardom than cause for concern. He won't have a Zeller season unless Cliff wanna be a dick and make him ride the bench just because he's a rookie.

The thing that everyone is forgetting is how good MKG and Vonleh are going to fit together if they develop. There won't be a better rebounding, defensive duo at the forward positions in the league. If they both develop their shots the sky is the limit for this team.
