I can see this being a good fit for us. Managing personalities is probably the only thing Clifford is above average at and I can see him getting the most out of Dwight.

His numbers last year were pretty good. On offense he had a career year form an efficiency stand point. He shot a career high 63% from the floor.

Dwight played about the same amount of minutes Cody did last year. Dwight had more points, a lot more rebounds, more blocks, better true shooting percentage.

I think we can be effective playing 4 out basketball. We have lineups where we can surround him with 3 pt shooters. Dwight is not going to dribble dribble fake fake fake up and under like Al Jefferson but he can muscle most guys right under the basket and dunk on them still. Plus he plays defense!

That is true about Dwight, if he they do try some alfense with him at least it won't involve a million fakes etc

Dwight is poor enough offensively at this stage of his career that he's definitely a bit of a hindrance on that end of the floor. The turnovers, lack of range and mobility, and poor ft shooting all really weigh heavily.

The hope is he solidifies our weak defense enough to offset that.

Obviously replacing the worst backup bigs in the league with solid production improves us greatly no matter what though.

Really, I don't think his offense is going to be a problem at all. He shots 73.5% from 0-3 feet, had the highest ORB% of his career, had a 115 ORtg, has a TOV% in line with his career averages, wasn't a high usage offensive player, and had the highest WS/48 total since he left Orlando... all last season. He averaged 13.5/12.7 last season. As far as his offense goes, rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated no matter what metric you choose to look at. Obviously he's not quite as good as the metrics would have you believe, but he's more than serviceable on the offensive end.

But honestly, with the elite rebounding and good defense, he could turn into Kwame Brown on offense and I'd still be very happy with the acquisition.

Well his OBPM has been negative the last few years.

I agree his decline is greatly exaggerated. He's fallen off quite a bit but that's from a truly epic peak level of production.

He's still has legitimate 3rd team ALL NBA type potential if he could sustain the per36 numbers in heavier minutes.

The zeller/howard duo will give us the ability to play matchups and get really good production from the C position for a full 48 minutes.

Center went from a major position of weakness to a strength for us.

If one guy goes down briefly or has foul trouble we can conceivably go small with Kaminsky or marv at c as well. We will likely to be hesitant to use those guys there for long stretches though unless its a necessity.

Dwight Howard has the physical profile and ability to be a monster . . . but he seems so immature. ATL was supposed to be The Homecoming for him, yet he wore out his welcome in less than a year.

Yeah I've seen that article and actually watched most of the playoff games vs Washington. Dwight was wretched.
