If we started him at the 4 and had him backing up the 5 for around 30 minutes a game would that effect Zellers Development?
Saying Zeller got 26-28mpg off the bench?
I have a sneaking suspicion that McBob and Zeller have to beat him out as starter. I think Zeller and McBob are going to split minutes in coming off the bench for Jefferson. Jefferson will likely get yanked a lot when other teams go small so that's where Zeller will get the most burn. Lately, we've seem to be following a trend of bringing our rookies along slowly anyway so I don't think it would affect Zeller's development any more than it would be otherwise.
Bottom line is that Biz is going to see minutes because he is our best defender and rim protector.
Absolutely. How else did he post a triple double against Anthony Davis and MKG in the Hoop Summit? I'm not sold on Zeller having lateral quickness, at least definitively better than Biz, because I watched him play traditional college center for 2 years. Combine numbers be damned. He's got to show it in games against guys as talented and/or athletic as he is.MPM wrote:Sik Infant wrote:It raises the question, will Biz have to earn his spot over Zeller and McBobcat or will Zeller and McBobcat have to earn it over Biz? Hmmm...there are so many rangy, athletic 4's in the league. Do you think Biz has the lateral quicks and responsiveness to guard the 4? He has the physical tools and I would love to see him be able to guard both the 4/5, but can't say I'm confident that he can. Zeller seems to be a better fit defensively for more mobile stretch 4's.

Very seriously doubt Biyombo starts, but I'm beginning to find myself getting excited for him again.

Excellent post.
I think that as the incumbent post starter that Biyombo will probably have the edge early.
As huge a fan of Zeller as I am I still recognise that he has not played a minute of meaningful NBA ball which Biyombo has.
It seems we're still sold on Biyombo's potential and he is currently the only player we have that provides the rim protector role.
Just because we have Jefferson and Zeller now does that make a 21 year old Center who was pick 7 an afterthought? I wouldn't think so.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
put me in the camp that thinks biz has no shot at starting at pf. i think biz is firmly entrenched as jefferson's backup and understudy, which i think is good for him. zeller and mcbob should compete for the start pf spot.
if mcbob plays in training camp like he did at the end of last year, i think he wins the starting job, with zeller taking it a month or two after.
pf/c minute distribution guess for nov/dec
pf: mcbob (20), zeller (24), mkg (4)
c: jefferson (32), biz (16)
jan/feb/mar/apr
pf: zeller (28), mcbob (16), mkg (4)
c: jefferson (30), biz (18)
based on what clifford said about playing small (he isnt a fan because he thinks you need to be big to play good defense) i dont see mkg getting a lot of minutes at pf, especially now that we have some frontcourt depth.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
I don't see McBob playing any meaningful minutes beside Jefferson. He isn't good enough defensively to mask Jefferson's bad D and he doesn't stretch the floor or rebound well enough to make sense on offense. Zeller is a great match on offense b/c he hopefully has good range but verdict's out on defense. Biyombo is a great match on defense but is virtually useless on offense. I think Biz gets the edge over Zeller b/c he's a 3rd year player and former starter and if Al Jefferson commands the doubles like he should then Biz might get a lot of bunnies when Al throws out. My big question is will the trio of Kemba, Hendo, and MKG shoot well enough to draw defenders away from Al or will their lack of shooting basically cause Biyombo's man to stay home on Al all game.

“My job is the same as it was last year – be a defender, protect the paint, rebound, block shots. Nothing is going to change,”
New coach Steve Clifford has told Biyombo not to fret about what he can’t yet do.
“We talked about that – to keep it simple, do what you do best and help the team however you can,” Biyombo said. “There’s no pressure and that gave me time to work on my game. If I’m here, then I’m here for a reason.”
In Patrick Ewing, the Bobcats have a former superstar center on the coaching staff. Biyombo said Ewing will be of great value to his development.
“(Ewing is) very helpful. We talk a lot about the game.” Biyombo said. “We work out all the time together – before the others and after the others. He’s going to make me a lot better.”

i am going to give this thread a new, positive name................ until biz gives me reason to return to brickhands.
the rules: if biz drops 3 passes in the same game, brickhands title returns.

He probably won't play enough to do that, but seriously.. Anyone who hash tags the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Biznation deserves this thread name. Its perfect. Id and1 you if I wasn't on my phone. Awesome thread name.

if zeller doesn't start it's because he's bad, and we don't want him to be bad

Re: #Ilovehashtags: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
Zeller will likely start, but if he doesn't, it would be for one of three reasons:
1) McBob really impresses Clifford and simply proves to be better than Zeller right now.
2) Biz has made strides defensively and will complement Al Jefferson very well.
3) Zeller's defensive shortcomings are too glaring to place him next to Jefferson for long.
If one of these is true, I have no problem bringing Z along slowly.

Exactly. Mcroberts isn't exactly "good", and Biyombo as a PF makes me nauseous.

Does Biz look taller to anybody else? Seems like in the vids and pics with Jefferson that Biz looks as tall as he is, and Jefferson is a true 7 footer isn't he? Apparently, Jefferson is listed at 6'10 so never mind. Still, Biz seems like he's longer or something to me.

Having 9-foot arms will tend to do that.

Re: #Ilovehashtags: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
biyombo looks like an absolute physical freak, which he is. definitely broader in the upper arms and shoulders, not that he was scrawny before. i really want to see him banging around and running the floor in preseason. the issue with him has always been coordination. he gets confused with depth perception from time to time, i feel like. i wonder if he needs some snazzy horace grant goggles.

Jefferson is 6-10 and Biz was measured at 6'8.25 barefoot which would put him around 6'9.75.
I hope he has grown and I hope we measure him, if he's still growing that would point to his age as being correct.
