When NBA announced Ja was suspended 8 games, didn't they already count the games he missed before the announcement? Might be something to monitor as a case study for Miles.

He got off easy.

That being said I'm kind of excited.

So now the big question is what do we do with him?

10 games isn't that much at all.

Silver is a joke of a commissioner, it shouldn't have taken 10 months to make this decision. And heck yeah he got off light. He should have been suspended last summer for the entire season. I guess in effect he was, but the way this was handled was terrible.

Just makes no sense how they presented it. Why does 82 games missed count for 20 games? Random

They could of said any number they wanted. They could have said 50 games, but 40 of them counted towards last season.

Now will be interested in where the amount per year his agent is asking for, give us a discount for sure.

I'm glad to have an answer, but that seems awfully lenient.

I agree it's a very awkward look for the league. Obviously Silver took sitting out this entire season into account, whether it's ever admitted or not.

It would have been a much stronger statement by the league to suspend him for the entire 21-22 season with the chance to apply for reinstatement before the beginning of 22-23. The NBA is going to get flamed for this decision, and rightly so, if you only consider what is presented here. I think it was enough punishment, assuming he also fulfills all court-ordered counseling drug testing and community service, since in all reality he did miss a whole year of his prime.

League gets to say "we effectively suspended him for over a season".

Just a very strange situation.

ETA: if we're going to look back and give credit and it's all made up, why not just say 92 game suspension with 82 games served? Seems like something actually was brewing in March when Miles said something about maybe coming back.

Exactly. The optics would've been much stronger with your wording vs. the 30/20 they came up with.

Sooooooo.....is he part of the long-term plan at 25 years old? What's our next move....contract extension or trade?

Agreed. He already sat out a full season so why say 30 games with 20 served?

The optics of just saying "we suspended him the entire last year" are much better. Or just say an additional 10. The wording is all wonky.

they didnt want to set a precedent that DA charges are now a 92 game suspension - my best guess
instead went with previous precedent of taylor, 24 gms, as outline.
then i read that announcing as 30/20 served impacts the amount $/game, anything over 20 (unclear on this)
