Re: World Peace - The Tyler Hansbrough Thread
It was a tough year for Tyler Hansbrough, as he returned to his home of North Carolina, but from the very start of pre-season figured to be out of the rotation, no matter how well he played. Here is one review, stating that though he was a fan favorite (obviously not on RealGM):
<Even if you ignore Hansbrough's excellent college career, he's clearly overqualified for a role like this. The seven-year veteran has a long track record of playing solid basketball as the back-up power forward on good playoff teams. Instead, he only had the opportunity to face opposing bench warmers in the last minutes of blow-outs for Charlotte.>
<Unless some team targets him as a below-market steal for their back-up center spot, Hansbrough might have found himself in the phase of his career where he is now only viewed as a player worth those stopgap minutes — even if that reputation is undeserved.>
http://www.atthehive.com/2016/5/5/11582724/tyler-hansbrough-was-charlottes-quintessential-emergency-big-in-2015-16
The return home he so fondly looked for may have irreparably damage a career in which he has played 45 playoff games, including two playoff starts for the Toronto Raptors last season.
After a fantastic second season with the Raptors, Hansbrough's stats were decidedly a mixed bag:
Among players with at least 40 games, Hansbrough finished:
Tied for 1st in the league in second chance points allowed per 36 minutes
18th in the league in fouls drawn per 36, behind Jeremy Lin
23rd in the league in offensive rebound percentage
Among the ten players on the team who played 40 games, plus Courtney Lee, Hansbrough finished:
First in offensive rebound percentage
2nd on the team in overall rebound percentage and rebounds per 36, behind Al Jefferson
5th in FG%
4th in steals per 36
5th in turnovers per 36
On the negative side, Hansbrough was:
Last in assists per 36
Last in assists/turnover ratio
Last in field goals attempted per 36
First in fouls per 36
2nd to last in FT%
Tyler Hansbrough deserved better than to be relegated to the deep bench, but was instrumental in helping turn the season around during the two road trips between January 20 and 31.

I am rooting for the guy. Anytime you play with the energy and intensity that Psycho T plays with, I want you to do well. Hopefully next year will be better.

very handy end of the bench big, plays with energy always ready to go.
also added a physicality. i wouldn't mind him back but would understand him looking for a better opportunity

I think this is the first year I can remember where posters came here solely to follow one specific player.

There were a handful of UCONN guys, but they eventually became Bobcats fans... nothing like Lin fans though

kemba is a fixture at charlotte and lin is, for now, a rental. im not sure why you see the need to throw some gratuitous shade here.

Other than the Kemba fans, this year we have had a dedicated Frank fan, PJ fan, Hansbrough fan, two or three Batum fans, two or three Lamb fans and about 62 Lin fans. Definitely a new phenomenon on this board. Until now we only had a few Kemba fans that came to the board as a result of one player.
Can you imagine those Brevin Knight vs Raymond Felton debates back in 2005 if Brevin had a massive following of fans. That would have been absolute chaos.

I wasn't around for that, but I am sure those were hilarious. I got into pretty strong Felton/Augustin debates on other boards though

Tyler Hansbrough: Good to the last drop.
Can you call what Hansbrough does on the court, basketball? No, you cannot. But you can't call the Mona Lisa beautiful either. Yet there it is, one of the world's foremost pieces of art. Hansbrough is a tour de force, a zeitgeist of post-modern dynamism. If you look beyond the frosted glass of time you'll see Hansbrough staring back at you, the same quixotic smirk that adorns the visage of the Mona Lisa. Embrace the heterodoxical basketball of the Hansbrough and you will align yourself with the subtle essence of the universe.

Nickname or no, he is having to wait a long time for another contract to materialize, same as last summer. Even the powers that be in the NBA just do not realize what he brings to a team. Perhaps he could use a new agent.

With the Christian Wood signing this evening, I imagine Hansbrough will be gone.

Re: World Peace - The Tyler Hansbrough Thread
2 funny Hansbrough stories.
Most people know he has a learning disability and trouble reading so i hate to make fun of him for that but he ordered oatmeal at Hams one day and the waitress is like we don't have oatmeal and he points to omelette on the menu.... like uh did you really expect spinach, tomatoes, sausage, etc to really come in your oatmeal?
Friend of mine is dating ginyards roomate . So she's hanging at the house. Tyler walks out with like 25 cookies and says "wanna have a cookie eating contest" . She laughs says no thanks. He proceeds to slam like 15 cookies in his mouth in 10 seconds and says well i just ate more than half i win and just stares at her like a weirdo for 30 seconds waiting for her response .
Kid is one special animal.

He doesn't shoot 3s so he's a pretty big hindrance on offense. Even blake griffin / DeAndre jordan have trouble making it work with 2 non shooters. Even Ken Faried is losing playing time.
He doesn't fit in the modern day nba unfortunately. He's never going to become mobile enough and he's unlikely to become a great outside shooter. Gonna have trouble finding a roster spot at his age beyond as a practice squad type player

I'm sure he'll have at least a Scalabrine type career from here on out. He tries really hard. I'm not sure why he signed up to play for a coach that doesn't value his best skill offensive rebounding. He simply isn't a 20 minutes a night player for a good team.

He was 13th in the league in offensive rebounding per 36 last season. He does not need 20 minutes per night, just 11 to 14. Less than that, it's hard to get in the flow of the game and start making plays. Hansbrough averaged 14 minutes for Toronto in 2014-15 and had a great season.
As for mobility, he is a lot faster than Frank Kaminsky, Spencer Hawes, or Al Jefferson.

Jefferson is the last Mohican he's a dying breed of post players.
Those other two guys can play the 5 and in theory can shoot 3's.
