Mills, Porter, Oladipo, Gay, Markkanen, Monk, DSJ, Ntilikina, DeRozan, Schroder, Dinwiddie, Iguodala, J. Collins, R. Lopez, Oubre, Jackson, Hart, etc. are still unsigned.

Derozan, Oladipo, Porter, Oubre, Schroeder, Dinwiddie, John Collins and Lauri are only guys left worth more than the MLE. Not much true cap space floating around out there.

Olympic Mills would be great! However, I’m not sure what we’re doing at the moment.

At this point use the cap space to sign best player available then use our MLE to sign a backup pg.

2021 Free Agency

Post#327 » by BigSlam » Tue Aug 3, 2021 3:22 am

Some might not like our free agency so far, but I really like that we haven’t over spent or over committed on mediocre players.

We’ve done that for years and it’s got us nowhere.

I like how Mitch has played this so far.

I agree, I’m willing to let this play out. We don’t need to spend needlessly.

Agree with this. Backup point is not in my view a critical urgent problem to solve. There will be good options to come available sooner or later as the market develops.

And there's always Brad Wannamaker, right?

Thank you!

I've railed on and on for awhile now about the importance of a clean cap sheet. If guys aren't needle movers, then what's the point in giving them 3,4,5 year deals?

It's like settling for the ugly chick because you know she puts out instead of cutting bait and looking for something better.

Does it sting to lose your main backup PG? Yeah.

Are we going to look back 4 years from now (or sooner) when guys like Melo or Miles need a second contract, or a trade opportunity opens up, etc. and be glad this space was left open? Probably.

Can you get Devonte's production, or close to it, for less committed money? Yeah.

Insert Panik...Calm...Panik meme

Agreed. Cho went all in giving everyone contracts that could have worked out veryyyyy well assuming Zeller, MKG, etc developed like he thought they would. They didn't. I like this approach Mitch is taking.

What do you think he's up to with Miles's extension? Any chance that's quietly his priority?

I like adding Lauri Markkanen as instant offense off the bench with our remaining space. Then if the team is willing to spend, use the MLE on a point or trade for one.

hard to describe this offseason as anything but brutal so far... if our goal was to try for playoffs. we lost so much vet leadership nba experience, to be replaced mostly with rookies or internal improvement. got 13 mil w/ no obvious plan. coulda had holmes for 13, but jumped gun on mason, which still good value.

offseason is stealth tank, but more likely to be back at end of lotto again.

Really not sure why you are so down on our draft, and the only player of consequence we lost was Graham, and we got a first out of it. FA and trading ain't over homie.

I feel the complete opposite. Graham leaving stings a little, but other than that I like what we've done. A lot. Get where you're coming from though.

not to say we should have kept or paid those who left... and clean cap is good for future... just that we are worse on paper now.

Toronto is expected to flip Dragic. We need to get him. He's a great locker room presence and would be a great backup PG

The only player available around 13m that I'd sign is Nunn. And that's about a 5% chance that Nunn would come here, and Miami wouldn't match.

Markannan would be cool, but I don't think he'd accept a bench role. Although that's probably not a big deal, he'd split time with PJ either way.

I do agree with fats though. As of now, I don't have us in the playoffs. We lost 4 rotation players, and replaced 2 of them with a rookie and Plumlee. I don't think Kai and Thor are rotation quality yet, they're too raw.

Internal improvement is our goal for this upcoming season. Playoffs are a bonus.

Dragic makes 18m. We only have 13m.
