Re: GT Jan 4th: Charlotte Vs Cleveland 7:00pm
i havent read the thread yet, but i just finished the game. i am sure i know what the general tone of the thread is though
- dunlap sucks
- kemba should have played more
- mkg should have played more
- dunlap sucks
i dont think you can fault dunlap tonight. can you really blame him for sticking with the guys who dug out from a massive hole? sessions and gordon were hot. taylor was playing pretty well in the 2nd. dunlap searched for 2.5 quarters to find a unit that would play both ends. he tried just about every combination. my only complaints were maybe he should have went with more defensive subs on that last play and perhaps we should have done a better job of trying to run and kyrie to get the ball out of his hands, but thats easier said than done. in the end we had our best perimeter defender on kyrie and he hit a tough shot. tip your hat and bid goodnight. the complaining should be about what we did wrong to get down so much in the 1st.

rotation didnt really bother me tonight. i wish Kemba/MKG/Biz had played well enough to earn those minutes but they flat out didnt. the bench just did better

Yeah, I'm not really gonna fault Dunlap for riding the hot hand. Kind of sends a message that if the starters want to finish games they can't lay turds on the court for the first three.

Re: GT Jan 4th: Charlotte Vs Cleveland 7:00pm
I'm going to fault Dunlap for riding the alleged hot hands tonight because I'm sure if Kemba and MKG were a part of the comeback unit he would've subbed them out. Reason how I know because I've seen him do it in several games. I remember when Kyrie only had 15 points in the middle of the 3rd to Kemba's 11 points before he was benched. I'm not saying that Kemba wasn't supposed to have came out of the game but as the best player on this team and the fact that he wasn't playing bad, he didn't deserve to ride the pine like that. Same thing goes for MKG who had a +1 in the +/- stat even though he wasn't a part of the blue unit. And why didn't MKG start? That was dumb as well. I understand that he has the eye injury but I don't see where that should've held him back from starting if he still could manage to play over 20 minutes.
I blame Dunlap for this loss because his defensive philosophy allows virtual nobodies like C.J. Miles to blow up for a whole half and then he blame it on his two best players by benching them. I'm sure MKG and Kemba as competitors were a bit annoyed watching their rival Kyrie Irving go for 16 points in the 4th quarter and it was nothing that they could do about it.

I DVR'd and just watched the whole game over again. I'm confused because when Kemba takes on being the #1 scoring option everybody want to call him a chucker or score 1st PG that we can't win with but when he becomes a distributor and not look for his own shot you guys want to knock him for not being aggressive.

BTW, Tristan Thompson owned us last night. He had just as big of an influence if not bigger on the Cavs beating us than Kyrie.

I mentioned at the start of the game he was looking down right dangerous in the 1st qtr. The defence was obviously keyed in on him often throwing doubles at him and rather than forcing the issue he was drawing them to him grabbing all of their attention and then calmly find the open man.
I was really liking what I was seeing from him.

I really think so. Going 17-33 from three in less than 20 games kind of qualifies you as a three-point threat.

He's screwing up my keeper fantasy team.
Without that 3pt shot he was pretty expendable (because I have Mayo, Wes Mathews, Joe Johnson, Iggy, Kwahi and Harrison Barnes as as my SG/SF's) and they all bring extra goodies (like steals AND 3 pointers). So I was going to start to dangle Hendo in trade offers to see what I might be able to get, but it's pretty hard to trade him at the moment wth his 14.4/4.6/3.2 along with 1.4 three pointers and 1.2 steals over the past 2 weeks!!

Re: GT Jan 4th: Charlotte Vs Cleveland 7:00pm
I would love it if Dunlap started to find the right lineups/strategies in the 1st half before we're down by 10 points at every halftime instead of coasting as a coach and experimenting so much. The game is won in 48 minutes, not just the final 24 minutes. I don't know if it's just me, but he seems to throw a lot of questionable substitutions into games whenever we're close or leading. I can tell that he was instructed by the higher ups to try to win against the Cavs last night since wins will be far and between during this development year but he kind of dropped the ball last night. I'm getting sick of this defense too. Defense is by far our biggest weakness but was supposed to be Dunlap's focal point. No way should the Cavs have had over 60 points on us at halftime without Kyrie doing most of the damage and Varejao not playing. That's downright despicable.

Just watched this game on my DVR, and yes, I blame this loss on Dunlap. Some of you guys where acting as if Kemba was playing like trash throughout the 1st 3 quarter so it was okay to sit him, even though he already had 11 pts, and 5 assist in just 3 quarters, and was starting to heat up before Dunlap yanked him. Also, I remember someone saying that this loss was okay because they are a rebuilding team, I agree with that, but If we are a rebuilding team, shouldn't we be playing our young guys in the 4th, so they could have a good learning experience?
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

you don't have to play bad for other people to be playing better. Kemba was having a pretty pedestrian game

ITT: we see that people will complain about anything they can.
Play the young guys and barely give minutes to the vets = damn it Dunlap, stop throwing games just to develop young guys!
Play the vets because they're hot and spurred a double digit comeback = damn it Dunlap, stop playing the vets and give the young guys some floor time!

I'm not complaining about Dunlap not playing the young guys. I'm complaining about him not playing our best two players in MKG and Kemba whom also happen to be above average perimeter defenders while Kyrie lit us up to the tune of 16 points in one quarter. I understand why he probably wouldn't put Biyombo in during that stretch but Kemba should've returned at about the 7 minute mark when we cut it to 5 and I don't see no reason why MKG couldn't have gave JT a breather at about the 5 minute mark. It's not like the 2nd unit made an unexpected comeback on a great team. I knew we were going to make a run on the lowly Cavs in the 4th quarter.

Here's a article questioning Dunlap's defensive strategy on Kyrie in the 4th quarter.
