My hope:

Detroit keeps their pick this year and continue to implode.
Embiid and Parker return to school for Sophomore years.
Detroit is terrible next year and win the #2 pick in the draft, which then goes to Charlotte

They don't have to be the 2nd worst team to win the #2 pick in the lottery.

I never would have thought they would be this bad this year either so anything can happen.

It would be very comical if Detroit finds luck in the lottery and moves into the top 3. I would like to see this board's reaction if it looks like Charlotte is slated to get the 9th pick but the NBA pulls a fast one and gives Detroit the 3rd pick. That would not surprise me in the least given how the lottery has shafted us so many times.

Id be rather irate.

I expected Pistons to be right around the edge of protection 8th +/- one spot. Since they have been lottery team, last 4 years, they always pick in that area - 7th (Monroe), 8th(Knight), 9th(Drummond), 8th(KCP).

I think it will be #9, it's been perfect so far!

They're imploding but it's hard to drop with so many teams already so far behind.

Talent is starting to move all over the board, but if Embiid and Parker stand pat this year, the talent pool is severely diluted and guys like Saric and McDermott move up even higher and that 9th pick isn't looking too hot. We of all teams shouldn't be criticizing other teams for standing pat either, we're in a purgatory of competing and tanking within the FO, although I feel like they are leaning towards winning this year.

As of today, Chicago would receive the 15th pick from us, we would in return get the Detroit 9th and the PDX 26th. We should package the PDX pick and some other pieces for Greg Monroe (NOT MKG) or we could offer Hendo to the Bulls in exhange for our pick back + some bench bodies. If Detroit ends up finishing 9th, which is the ideal case, we could own the 9th and the 15th.
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

The big question is will detroit be able to outtank Utah, Sacramento, LA, Philly, Orlando, Milwaukee, Boston, and Cleveland? Those, along with NY, are the teams behind them now. If NY overtakes them, the Pistons pick is #9. I think New Orleans falls behind as well given their injuries and the fact that they won't have a pick next year if they're out of the top 5. I think all the aforementioned teams (except for NY) will end up worse than the Pistons, giving us the 10th pick.

As of today, Chicago would pick 15th with ours and 17th with their own. Portland's pick would come to us at #26. Houston and LAC are within two games of them, but it isn't likely the pick falls any lower than #24 unless Portland suffers a collapse post-ASW.

Awesome analysis!

I agree with nearly everything except I belive that New York and New Orleans will finish with a better record than Detroit, leaving us with #9.

Dumars really helped us out with that one, MJ paying the 15m difference between Maggette and Gordon's contract will pay off bigtime imo.

We are in the danger zone now. We could miss the playoffs, lose our pick and lose DET as a lottery pick and get Portland at the end of the first round. This is not a good limbo to be in.

Pick a direction.

Detroit is probably going to go on a half decent roll. They are 5-4 in their past 9 games I believe, and most of the time teams do better when a coach is fired mid season. If anything we will get their pick lower than we thought we might.

If we miss the playoffs we have to depend on the Knicks to pass them. I just said we have to depend on the New York Knicks to win.

We're screwed.

Eh, I think we will be alright as long as we stay healthy. A solid acquisition at the deadline would certainly help.

I wouldn't really mind making the playoffs anymore because not making it would just allow Detroit's pick to become worse and we'd still have a chance of losing our pick.

Detroit has quietly won three in a row. Wouldn't be surprised if our pick slips to the 14'ish range.

Finally people are seeing this.

If we make the playoffs we increase the chances of getting a top 10 pick from Detroit. If it's pick 11 still good.

If the Pistons jump ahead of us and make the playoffs, their pick gets worse and our pick could be 11 which would go to the Bulls.

I'd much rather stay where we are, beat them down, get a better pick from them and lose a non-lottery pick to the Bulls around 15, 16 or 17.
