The possibilities for the roster are endless. Crazy defense with a vastly improving offense. We are really going to shock the league in a year or two.

Despite the Indiana Pacers' heartfelt movie tribute and presentation to Lance Stephenson, the two sides are currently at an impasse over a new deal, according to sources close to the situation.

The Pacers offered a five-year, $44 million contract to Stephenson, but sources said the versatile shooting guard believes he's worth much more.

Stephenson averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season -- all career-highs for the four-year player.

"Lance and his representatives aren't sure they're going to be able to reach an agreement with the Pacers," a source said. "It's clear they want him back and he wanted to go back, but they may not be able to come to terms."

Several clubs have reached out to Stephenson's agent, Alberto Ebanks, to register their interest, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls, according to sources.

Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets also have interest in Stephenson.

While money is a factor, Stephenson will not simply go to the highest bidder, sources said. He wants to go to a team that is either a contender or a competitive up-and-coming club.

told you guys. you're not going to get him for 8-10 million per year. Bledsoe is seeking the max, so I expect Stephenson to settle somewhere in the 15m/year range

Yeah, everyone has gotten paid this offseason. I mean, when they're saying Trevor Ariza might be getting 8-10 million, then Lance is getting significantly more than that.

I don't want to overpay for Lance. Guy wants Tyreke Evans money.

And I can't even imagine Lance with money to do more stupid crap.

I guess time will tell if any teams will put up what Lance wants. If I'm the Hornets I offer 4 years at $11.5M and see what kind of reaction I can get. Maybe we could end this thing early.

I would do 4 years 44 mil. 11 a year at 3-4 years is probably as high as I go.

I think he's ours for the taking if we want him.

Offer him 4/48 with the last year being a player option. I think that would be enough to get him to sign.

Somebody tell Kobe he wants to play for a contender or a young up-and-coming team.

The Pacers offered a five-year, $44 million contract to Stephenson ($8.8 million annually)

That sound about right. A team might offer a extra $5 million overall to the tune of 5-years/$49 million, but his performance combined with his character issues is justified for about $8-10 million. I've been saying it all along. It's just simple logistics. Anything above $10 million is excessive overpay

Agreed, I like the player option too. I could get on board with that.

It's an opening offer that chased Lance out of the theatre.

Go offer him 4/40 or 4/44. Probably a slight overpay, but you're gonna have to overpay a little if you want to land a good FA. That contract wouldn't kill you (unless Lance goes crazy, which is possible).

How is placing a valuation on his character simple logistics? The Pacers are extremely tax averse so with their cap situation it makes sense that they are not going to make a top of the market offer. Last year's performance from a 23 year old justifies the type of offers we're talking about IMO.

I do think Lance is a guy who might sign soon if we move fast.

It would be about as good as he can expect, it would also open up the possibility of getting an even larger contract 3 years from now when he's only 26. He's going to get paid in the 11 to 12 a year range, if we want him we have to be willing to put that much on the table.

I don't have to justify logistics to you because you'd probably make me go through 20 'back & forth' posts before you'd comprehend and understand that I'm right all along when Stephenson doesn't receive more than the $10 million range like I've said from the start. I'll take the wait & see approach. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and clearly a idiot, but I'm for sure that I won't be

...because it's simple logistics (detailed coordination of a complex operation involving many people) for any sensible team not to offer him anything outside of $8-10 million

8-)

Personally I'd rather have Parsons. Selfless players promote a better team, not a better stat line. Lance is good, and albeit riley player, but childish antics can annoy other teammates and make them lose respect for the player. Maybe he's just sick of being in Indiana?
