That's largely in part b/c Al is so slow and terrible on defense that the rest of the team has to sacrifice offensive boards for transition defense to cover for him.

Maybe, but it seems pretty core to Clifford's entire defensive philosophy so I'm not sure it's just because of Al. Could be though, Al's no race horse.

I've never heard Cliff mention Al as the reason for emphasizing transition defense over offensive boards. That is just his philosophy. The Spurs employ it as well and it was SVG philosophy with the Magic and Heat. Clifford even says so in an article from Zach Lowe.

“Stan studies the game, and he found offensive rebounding just isn’t important to winning,” says Steve Clifford, the Bobcats head coach and a Van Gundy assistant in Orlando. “Stealing the ball and creating turnovers are not usually factors in winning big.”

Maybe SVG will change it up in Detroit since they are a good offensive rebounding team. Either way I think it's a reach to imply it stems from Jefferson, despite his shortcomings in foot speed.

Skip's praise of a player is like breaking a mirror, 7 years bad luck. I see McBuckets being more of the NBA Tebow though. Minus the uber religious angle and more of the skinny Hodor look.

Vonleh, to me, is sooooo young. How many youngin's does this team want or need? It's a legitimate question.

For the upcoming season, Coach Clifford will assign an assistant to Vonleh and ask the young man to work on a specific skill. Do one thing and do it well. It's an approach that worked with Biyombo this past offseason (post defense). If I'm Cliff (and I'm not), I work on Noah's hands and his face-up jumper to 15 feet. The rest will come with time and seasoning. Vonleh lets opponents get into his chest too much, so he'll really have to work on that at the next level. But if he is to contribute this year, it will be as a pick-and-roll shooter and a hustle big off the bench.

And it illustrates all the more the need, to my chagrin, for Josh McRoberts. God help us all.

Inside the Sacramento Kings war room. They brought an independent analytics team in who had Vonleh rated 3rd behind Wiggins and Parker, with a floor of Tristan Thompson and ceiling of Chris Bosh, but the Kings uppers were hell bent on selecting a guard.

Apparently they were extremely close to selecting Payton, but the owner wanted Stauskas and shooting more than anything

JEEZ CHEEZE...you act like Noah is raw as dog meat before processing. Vonleh has NBA ready skills, size, length and athleticism. He will need experience, as all rookies do, but you will be surprised at his productivity for a very young big man.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

So jealous, would love to get a video of the war room for the Hornets, that would be fascinating.

Great find amcoolio.

Lol only the Kings would pick a player over someone some of them felt could be Chris Bosh.

The Kings have been winning in fan outreach lately, what with the draft expert experiment and then this.

I guess if you can't win on the court, you have to try other ways to keep fans.
