If you can't have Larry Bird, you go with mini-Larry Bird.

I'm taking Chris Mullin with my Mecca pick.

I was going to take him with my pick earlier before realizing Pettit had been passed on so many times. I like that pick a lot.

Would you describe Mullin as being underrated?

I just couldn't pass by...

Image

Adrian Dantley...

I don't understand how has nobody picked him so far.

Two time leading scorer of an NBA season, had a 4 season stretch of averaging over 30 points (with over 6 rebounds and 4 assists), hall of famer (while players similar to him like Aguirre, King etc. got left off).

Although it is said that he wasn't the perfect team-mate, that he argued with coaches and was a pretty selfish player (but what an amazing scorer!!! during his 30+ years his field goal percentage was at least 55% every season), he fits in just nice with my team because he had that attitude of a Detroit Piston, was an extremely tough competitor and could throw a punch as well. You can't be that bad of a team-mate if your nickname was "The Teacher" by the way, some of the Pistons were pretty pissed off about the way he got traded for Aguirre. He'll form a deadly bench scoring duo with Alex English on my team.

funny you picked both english and dantley. in simmons' book when he does his "hall of fame pyramid" he ranks english and dantley next to each other and puts them in the "we will never see another player like them again"

english - a toothpick small forward who didnt play much defense and couldnt shoot the 3, didnt really have any handles and basically made a living on 15 foot bank shots.
danlty - a 6'3" small forward who played exclusively in the post by using his massive ass to back player down close to the basket and either get the easy post up or draw the foul.

i almost took dantley with my last pick but i figured that he and barkley were just too similar in terms of being undersized post up guys who both needed to operate down on the block.

Exactly!!! But I don't understand how do some of these players get such good asses. Moses, Sir Charles, Dantley etc. they just had the perfect asses for their style of play and they knew how to use them. I'm predicting a boom 20 years from now, when NBA players will get surgeries (the same as porn stars) on their asses during the summer in order to rebound the ball or be better in post offense.

who is the perfect change of pace, lightning fast, superb handles, scoring passing, wreck havoc on defenses, backup up pg to place behind oscar? i'll take nate "tiny" archibald for the dropping dimes category.

NYC playground legend. i could have put him in the bball mecca category, but i figure that with oscar and tiny i am good at pg so i dont need to add another 9+ assist guy to my squad. i'll save that category for someone else.

tiny spent his peak years putting up monster numbers on bad teams, but later in his career he showed he could just as easily blend his skills to lead talented playoff teams as well when he was the conductor for the loaded celtics teams of the early 80s.

1st player to lead the league in points and assists in the same season
6 time all-star
3 time all-nba 1st team, 2 time all-nba 2nd team
nba champion 1981
2 time leader in free throws made and attempted

best season
'73: 34ppg, 11.4apg

sadly, another player from the old days whose peak years were cut short due to a torn acl.

Fats, I was reallllly thinking about taking Tiny, but after reading through Simmons' book, I was scared off.

He does have the distinction of being the only player to lead the league in points and assists, but seemed a little Derrick Rose-ish for my taste

Derrick Rose isn't a bad player though.

Of course he's not.

By Derrick Rose-ish, I mean "shoot first-ish". I don't want a PG who keeps the ball too much. Tiny is definitely good, probably a top 10 PG, but not what I think a PG should be.

Looking at Fats' team, Tiny will definitely be off the bench. So it might not be a big deal for that roster. It'd be interesting to see what kind of players he surrounds him with in that 2nd unit.

11 assists still isn't bad though. I accidentally skipped a certain player I wanted. I hope he's there when it comes back to me!
