9-14 still provides us with a player that can really help - LaVine, Vonleh, Harris, James Young, Hood, McDermott. There's not much separation between them.

Finally people are seeing this.

If we make the playoffs we increase the chances of getting a top 10 pick from Detroit. If it's pick 11 still good.

If the Pistons jump ahead of us and make the playoffs, their pick gets worse and our pick could be 11 which would go to the Bulls.

I'd much rather stay where we are, beat them down, get a better pick from them and lose a non-lottery pick to the Bulls around 15, 16 or 17.
A loss like we had tonight is a pain in the ass. These next two against Detroit are huge games.

Rockets and Clippers win, Blazers lose.

Those teams should pass Portland and if they do the pick moves to 24 which looks better than it did earlier.

Blazer are 5-8 in their last 13 games.
Humble yourself.

Blazers pick gaining momentum heading into the trade deadline. It's good timing.

The Blaze are finally slipping that is great, hopefully they get a key player injured (nothing major) and barely make the playoffs

It won't happen, but it's great to think about isn't it? Still, even if they just barely make the playoffs, five or six Eastern Conference playoff teams will have worse records. Them missing the playoffs as a 9th or 10th seed is an absolute best case scenario and a total pipe dream.

EDIT after looking at the standings: ****, even the Rockets and Clippers are ahead of them now???

Golden State at 8 is a total surprise. They're still 5 games behind the Blazers. The West is unforgiving. If the Blazers find themselves a little flat with Lillard burning himself out competing in every All-Star competition, that could be incredible.

They're way better than the Mavs, Warriors and Suns so I think the pick at best is 24. But 24 in the 2014 draft is close to the value of 13 in the 2013 draft. They are 27th in defense and they don't really have many assets to upgrade. If their shooting goes cold maybe the pick rises to 21 but that's really a longshot and perhaps pointless to hope for given the similarity of players available 21 - 24. The pick won't enter a different tier of the draft unless they miss the playoffs. They have the best offense in the NBA so, they're not missing the playoffs.

Well they lost Joel Freeland and that doesn't sound like much but their bench isn't exactly that deep. Any more injuries and they could be in a free fall.

They're said to be interested in Hawes but I don't see how they clear the cap space without depleting their delicate depth.

I completely forgot about Freeland getting hurt, he was their #1 bench option for PF and C so losing him will hurt , if another bench player goes down (Mo Williams maybe) i can see them going on a really bad stretch for a while

we are dangerously close to landing in NO MAN'S LAND. as teams like the pelicans and lakers keep struggling, it is no guarantee that the 9th place team in the east picks 10th, like we earlier predicted. there is a very real possibility that we are passed by the pistons for the 8th seed and then our own pick lands at 11 and goes to the bulls. tankers and pro-playoffs fans can all agree that would be a terrible situation.

yep, my new goal is to not tank or try for playoffs, its just simply to not get stuck in no mans land

That's why I hope the reports about us being ready to wheel and deal are true. It's time to cash in those assets and "kill the future" and "destroy our rebuild" and "panic" and "be desperate".

Either that or it's time to leverage our assets and make shrewd trades to upgrade the team to the point where we are a clear legit playoff team. We are definitely not ready for prime time against the best teams as evidenced last night against the Nets.

but also trading our assets might make us more likely get stuck in no mans land , but this time with out any assets to get us out

Considering we could miss the playoffs, lose our pick while the Pistons pick goes from 10 to 15 I can't imagine a worse "no man's land" than this. It's time and thank God I'm seeing reports of us (and the Suns) being the movers and shakers at the deadline.

we're barely a playoff team in the historically bad East so there is no way we make the playoffs in the "normal" East where the 8 seed has around a 48% winning percentage (we are at 43%) trading for players like Evan Turner will make us better than a 43% win team but it won't get us anywhere besides a bottom 3 seed in the "normal" East which is no mans land

No way do I want the Bulls to have the 11th pick for Tyrus Thomas, first of all. And no way do I want us going into next year with the same squad. So get Turner for the Blazers pick and get somebody good for MKG, get in the playoffs and keep the Pistons pick around 10. The only difference next year will be the Nets and Bulls - both should be much better. We can stay ahead of all the rest.

With the rising star game this weekend and neither MKG or Zeller being invited that is not a good look for Rich Cho to say the least. Ive been trying to stay optomistic with MKG but common man that jumpshot is not going to work in the NBA so he is basicaly a role player and role players are not suppose to be drafted #2 overall. and dont even get me started on Zeller. Makes you wonder sometime if this team can survive such terrible moves by the GM.

Indeed. If only Cho had drafted MCW like everyone was clamoring for...
