For me, it's Ace's seeming aversion to do any of the lunch pail type of things on the basketball court that has put him in the "Do Not Want" category for me. His pre-draft process just pretty much confirms it for me.

The offensive and defensive highlights are great but will he commit to NBA defensive rotations, off ball movement, physical toughness, etc?

At this point, just draft Tre who gives you alot of what Ace has (and is much better shooter/passer) but from all accounts has a great personality and could be coached to do the little things.

From the clip around 1 minute in...
"it was pretty well known that he (Ace) didn't think Charlotte was a good fit"

Had we heard anything like this before? Was it known?
I mean I had a gut feeling that Charlotte was one of the teams that he refused to work out for.

Who does Ace see as his competition for becoming the alpha on this roster? is he worried about Miller playing the same position as him or is he worried about Melo being the face? The whole thing is just baffling to me.

i would imagine agents don't want their guys here because they see and hear how our team is run, they've seen Charles Lee's "system" and they've seen our track record of developing prospects. you'd rather go a spot or two later and sacrifice a million a year on your contract to dodge that. we are probably also near the very bottom in endorsement potential. can't even get a jersey patch lol

Thing with Ace from a strictly on the court perspective, he has some glaring flaws and glaring strengths. That view has never changed for me throughout the last month. But what's going on right now with his representation and approach can't just be ignored. Like, if he was the sure fire 3rd best prospect in this draft then I would take him despite any of that. But is he? A lot of draft experts (most of them) seem to place him as like the 6th - 9th best prospect.

For me, I am not upset if we end up with him but I see more clear / better outcomes with VJ/Tre/Kon than I do with Ace. That said, I am not taking Jak or Maluach or some other random prospect over him.

So instead you want to go to wizards, the only org arguably worse than hornets?

That's not the reason. It's about clearest path to immediate shots.

He did.

His agent is killing his rep. The agent wants him in Brooklyn because this is his first NBA client. The bigger the market the more money for the agent.

Kid needs to fire him. He's looking real crazy with all these reports coming out.

Ace did talk about Melo and Miller in Chicago combine clip.

Something has changed from then... his agent is taking over.

Under the last ownership regime and previous coaching staffs, I’d buy that, but not now. We have a good young coach that players like. We have a system that allows guys to fire up the 3’s. And our front office is now solid. I’d argue some guys developed a lot last year (unfortunately due to injuries). That’s said, I can buy the endorsement deal though if you’re good enough, nobody cares. If this is true, I’d venture it’s because we already have a good young player in his position that is pretty similar.

Even with all this negative press around Ace, we are still getting Philly might take him 3rd. Or teams want to trade up for him.

Either teams don’t care about the reports as much as people are pushing that story or he is just that good of a prospect.

He isn’t the 7th best prospect in the class plus having all this negative press and still getting talked about as a top 4 player.

Agent probably took some... constructive criticism after teams saw the clown show he was passing off as a draft process. This is round two.

I personally don't have a problem with players trying to control where they are drafted. Wouldn't you want to have a say on which state your work made you live in?

I definitely don’t think that us drafting Ace is off the table by any means.

Why would he be off the table.

I watch his film and it's clear at least in my mind he's the 3rd best prospect in this draft. This kid has a offensive bag. I was watching his highlights last night and he has jump hooks from the mid post. He had multiple plays with him using that shot btw. His potential is crazy even with a weak handle.

I was never off the Ace bandwagon. These rumors mean nothing we all know it's more his agent. If Ace was a troublemaker we would have heard about it at Rutgers. His agent is killing his stock right now.

But yeah my opinion hasn't changed draft Ace if he's on the board.

K squared will be a better pro.

I feel like Kon is the safe bet for fans looking to eliminate the greatest amount of risk at the expense of surrendering the greatest reward, then looking back on the draft wishing we would've taken a bigger swing.
