Well you said the deal was mainly for the expiring, which Haywood is. I guess you just want to get rid of Hendo more than I do.

The deal is exchange Perk for Haywood (we take a bigger cap hit, but both are expirings) and we trade Hendo for the right to move up 3 spots. Is it worth it? Probably not. Will we do it? I doubt it. I'm just kinda trying to figure out a way to get Hendo off the roster and this makes sense. If he's our backup SF playing 20 minutes a game I'd be fine with him in that role. But that's about all I'd be okay with. If he's starting the season opener then I'm gonna be really frustrated with our offseason moves.

We trade Hendo to move up 3 spots but we get out of an extra year of his contract. If we plan to draft Stauskas or a SG plus sign Lance or trade for Afflalo then it helps us.

If we plan the offseason well in the first place, Hendo won't get enough minutes to justify his salary anyways. I think some see him as a 6th man. If someone like Lance or Afflalo is starting, I'd rather have Stauskas be the 6th man over Hendo. Hendo isn't instant offense, not even on a second unit.

What we might even be able to do is trade Hendo + Haywood + 24 for Perkins + 21 then flip 21 attached to Neal to the Magic for Afflalo. This way we:

1) Clear Henderson's contract, creating minutes for a draft pick
2) Clear Neal's contract, creating minutes for a draft pick
3) Upgrade SG + SF with Afflalo over Henderson
4) Upgrade SG + PG with Stauskas over Neal
5) Add depth to C with an expiring
6) Preserve cap space for the 2015 free agent class while remaining competitive

After 2014-2015 we'd have flexibility with young players backing up each position and money to spend plus our own draft pick in 2015 to add more depth

PG-Kemba Walker/Nik Stauskas
SG-Arron Afflalo/Nik Stauskas/CDR
SF-MKG/Arron Afflalo/CDR
PF-Josh McRoberts/Cody Zeller
C-Al Jefferson/Biyombo

LaMarcus Aldridge would be the guy I'd target in the 2015 FA class:

PG-Kemba Walker
SG-Arron Afflalo/Nik Stauskas
SF-Michael Kidd-Gilchrist/Arron Afflalo
PF-LaMarcus Aldridge/Cody Zeller
C-Al Jefferson/Bismack Biyombo

We would have no other big contracts on the books - plenty of cap space, a nice culture in place, a winning team and plenty of good guys to text and recruit LaMarcus Aldridge.

We would be the 2013-2014 Portland Trailblazers with defense and an All-NBA center.

I don't think LMA will be a possible target for us in 2015 unless the Blazers totally collapse. I think he'll sign a extension soon after their good season.

Only way I'd do that trade with OKC is if it looked like this:

Perkins, 21

For

Henderson, Haywood

We don't need to include our 24th pick...Value wise, Henderson is much better than Perk...we'd still be giving them a center to rotate with Adams...if anything, I'd throw in our 45th

I do think the Hornets will.make a run at Afflalo prior to the draft, to see what is possible. As much as I want Lance, there are no guarantees we can win the bidding. Trying to construct a deal for him MUST only include our lower pick. Ideally we use it and players for Afflalo, then deal to move UP to 5 or 6 and get our PF. So how about this multi-trade to really set us up for the future:

Trade #1 - Hendo, 24 and 2nd round pick for Afflalo.
Trade #2 - MKG to either Utah for 5th pick or Boston for 6th pick

With the highest pick we take either Vonleh or Randell depending on availability/choice. With pick 9 we select our SF, McDermott. This gives us our starting SG, possible rookie starters at the 4 & 3 with high potential. It is a blended strategy, sorta win now but for the future also.

Caveat; before you poo-poo trading Hyphen, there is at least 1 draft analyst that sees Vohleh going 3rd, with Parker falling to 5. IF we could deal with Utah ahead of the draft, our options there will be sweet. In that scenario, we likely take Parker at 5 and a PF at 9...perhaps trade back a bit for Payne (who is rising fast on boards, now into the lottery area).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm not trading MKG unless it's a sure thing we get Wiggins. Sorry.

I like that lineup. Only thing I disagree with is Stauskas is not a NBA PG, even as a backup.

Draft LaVine Instead and we're good at PG.

I question LaVine as a point guard as well. He's not good enough at creating for others, at least not yet anyways.

Lavine could play PG just as good as old man Ridnour did, just he'll be able to score more.

It should excite the few people that I've been seeing posting around here that we should re-sign Ridnour. I'm sure you've seen them, at least 5 of them.

Apparently we had talks with Houston a while back about Asik. They wanted the equivalent of three first rounders. Lol
