I think Kemba has the ceiling of an unselfish Allen Iverson, a medium of Monta Ellis, and a floor of Tim Hardaway type player. He can easily be the point guard of the future or a small shooting guard. I think it would be easier to let him run the point down the road, but for now I think him a DJ would be a nice lineup with Kemba penetrating and hitting DJ for spot up threes. I am really excited about how fast paced this team will be this year. Kemba, DJ, Hendo, Mags, TT, and Bizzy all can get out on the break. I think we are going to have to play fast to score over 80 points a game and this will allow Bizzy to get blocks easier in a fast paced game and get out on the break even easier. Also, we are really young so we need to run these older teams to get them tired.

I also did not realize how many threes Kemba shot this year and not that bad of a percentage at 33%. I mean I do not want him shooting 5 trey balls a game, but I think he will shoot more then Hendo. I think Hendo needs to let it fly more this year. He has a great looking shot and I think its in his head. We could be a really good three point shooting team if we actually shot some this year. Maggette even shot 36 percent from three. I also see Diaw and DJ getting there fair share along with Carroll if he gets the backup shooting guard minutes.

Wow, I'm surprised to see the consensus in love with Kemba. I've been hoping we landed since the tournament, but I never thought it would be possible unless we moved up which didn't seem worth it. Seems like there were a lot more Kemba fans in the closet than I thought. This is the first draft in a looooooooooooooooooooong time that I've been this excited about afterwards. The future is bright. We will still suck badly next year, but it's OK and it will make us better in the end.

This guy just has the "it" factor. Some players are just natural born leaders and winners and this guy has the makeup to be great one day. The one area he's truly lacking right now is court vision which is the most important aspect of being a point guard in the NBA, but he's so freaking talented and smart along with an incredible drive to win, that I believe under the tutelage of MJ, the sky is the limit with this kid. Just like MJ improved his jump shot in the NBA, I think Kemba will greatly improve his court vision and awareness. Very special this kid and so pleased we drafted him.

I'm so giddy with excitement now because I actually like 2 players on this team and also get to watch this Biyombo character. That should be interesting. So OMG thats 3 players I'm looking forward to watching. 3!!!

If we can stink real bad this season while the youngins improve, then have a top 5 pick next summer, we will have lots of good young talent plus a ton of flexibility cap wise in 2 years. Thats when we can sprinkle in a few quality veterans to compliment the youngins. But not now. We must suck for at least one more season.

Kemba Walker has officially made me an 'avid' watcher of Charlotte Bobcats basketball. I'm happy that he's on this team. It's a nice fit for him.

Another great pick. What i like about him most is that he's going to fill some seats at the TWCA.

Dj Augustin and Kemba Walker

Post#49 » by captaincrunk » Sat Jun 25, 2011 6:57 pm

We've seen a lot of discussion in other threads so I thought I'd see what we think in a thread designed for this purpose: Wat do?

They're different players, despite both being two of the quickest players in the NBA. DJ is a much better shooter anywhere from 4 feet onward, and Kemba will be a better finisher at the rim area. DJ controls the pace of the game better in my opinion, having very few turnovers and making smart plays, whereas Kemba is good at getting his own shot.

Kemba is good in the pick and roll, but without Wallace or Jackson we don't really have an excellent roll guy. Perhaps Tyrus can be that guy, Kwame definitely isn't. But maybe Kemba and Biyombo coming off the bench could be a nice tandem and a new look for our offense? I haven't seen Biyombo do much, due to the lack of quality tape.

I guess the crux of the argument is, who starts once we finally get some games?

My pick is DJ. Hopefully Boris will be on the bench to help Kemba facilitate, which I think is Boris' best attribute by far. DJ's shooting helps spread the floor a little bit which is nice, and neither player is a defensive stud anyway.

I'm not ready to totally put DJ out to pasture yet, Silas said something about finding a way to get them on the court at the same time yesterday. I know the Warriors had a running lineup with Monta Ellis at the 3 before, I see no reason why Hendo couldn't get some minutes at the 3.

I don't want them both on the court at the same time. That would be a disaster, just like the old Raymond+Knight/McInnis, or Ray+DJ days.

I'm all for letting them both prove themselves. And most likely, it will be DJ who's either going back to the bench or will get traded. They are both similar players but Kemba is 3 years younger and has a pair of testicles.

Hendo is 6'5". That's adequate size to play the three, and he is really strong for his size. I expect he will at times.

Playing them together would be fine as long as we don't expect to start quarters that way.

I know the Bobcats front office has their hands tied on what decision they are going to make. I'm pretty sure that they'll wait until training camp to see what they have before they explore other options. There's nothing wrong with having two quality PGs, especially when both are getting paid inexpensive rookie contracts. I like Kemba Walker over D.J. Augustin. I like the fact that Kemba is more of a playmaker than D.J., and that is what this young Bobcats team is going to need. D.J. is the better shooter, but with Stephen Jackson gone, who I viewed as a point forward, he may struggle to find a shot for himself and others. If they are both on the roster at the start of the season, I would expect Kemba to come of the bench to D.J. as due dilligence, and occasionally share the backcourt together against smaller guards.

DJ is the more assertive playmaker. Kemba is more of a driving guard and a pick and roll guy.

EDIT By this I mean that Kemba looks for his own shot more than DJ. Dj doesn't shoot long range off the dribble very often, usually he passes it, moves to his spot, catch and shoot. Or he'll drive somewhere, draw the defense, and pass to someone to make a shot, or he'll drive and go for a floater/layup etc. We saw a lot more of the driving side of DJ near the end. Kemba seems more like the kind of guy who, when making plays, is looking for himself or his roll man (to good success).

Both guys press the break really well, I think.

DJ starts. At least at the beginning of the season. If Kemba starts to work him in practice and puts up some good numbers during his time on the floor, they can move him into the first 5.

Even if Kemba doesn't start he will / should be on the floor at closing time.

I don't follow NCAA that much, but I suppose because of that (those) game winning shot(s) he made in March Madness.

DJ hasn't exactly been a slouch, and most players don't come to the NBA pre-stocked with clutch jumpers. They tend to gain them with confidence on the NBA floor.
