Re: Bismack Biyombo welcome to Bobcats thread
After watching Biyombo film here are some things I noticed:
1. He is really used to running the pick and roll. He does a nice job of rolling hard to the basket, but his teammates are more concerned with jacking threes then giving him the ball.
2. He tends to trail the ball to much when players drive to the basket trying to get blocks and leaves his man for a free throw line jumper. He recovers quick enough to alter the shot sometimes, but not all the time.
3. From what I have seen he is not a dominant rebounder on either end of the court. Seems to be boxed out by smaller men too easily. He does however get involved on second and third attempts often. I think he gets out of position on defensive end trying to block shots to often to dominate the boards.
4. For as many blocks he gets at pinning the ball against the board, I have yet to see him goaltend which nice to see. Also, Havent seen him fall for many pump fakes which is also nice. He uses his length to close out and challenge shots on perimeter rather then fly by the defender in the air or foul them.
5. Offensively he is strong going up to dunk the ball and uses the pump fake well when in traffic. Haven't seen him shoot the ball much, but it looks a lot like Ibakas which is acceptable.
Final Thoughts: I think this kid is going to be a defensive center for the first few years, but its the NBA everyone develops an offensive game and this kid is not even 19 yet. It seems like the newer videos such as the Hoop Summit he improved on offense greatly and I think that will continue. I think Kemba is going to cause havoc for defenses when he drives the lane and which is going to lead to many dump offs to Bizzy for monsterous throw downs.
Rookie Stats Projection:
6.8 ppg, 7 rpg, 2.4 bpg, all in about 25 minutes per game if we resign Kwame.

Re: Bismack Biyombo welcome to Bobcats thread
My Biyombo love is not welcomed at the Raptors board so I thought I'd chime in here.
He was a late entry into the 2011 Nike Hoops Summit game that welcomed one of the most promising future draftees in a long time. People were getting in their seats bracing themselves to get dazzled by Austin Rivers' guard play, the versatility of big man and projected number 1 pick Anthony Davis, elite play of Michael Gilchrist, amongst other notables like Bradley Beal. Do you know which player people were fixing their jaws over after the game? Bismack Biyombo.
You know a player is special when he can outshine an entire team full of young potential NBA star hopefuls, when his team was the one getting blown out. He combines jaw dropping athleticism with a freakish 7'7 wingspan. People say he's just another Sear Sene but Sene never had his level of athleticism, and he was so much older to boot. Biyombo actually reminds me of a young Dwight Howard. Not the same level athletically, then again there aren't many big men with Howard's freak athleticism. Where I see the similarities is in their fluidity. They are huge bodies that can lug around their large muscular frames like they were guards. Biyombo can quickly spin to the basket with ease and his up and under move is smooth and quick. His jumpshot is also a lot more along in development than people give it credit for. It's not bad at all; he just had an icky release but is easily correctable. He has all the makings to be a good post scorer one day.
What intrigued me more about him though is his personality and character. He has the maturity of a sage. He says all the right things and has a great insight on human life. And I don't get that fake public relations politically correct bs vibe LeBron emits. He also has an undying desire to improve himself. Great work ethic is not a rare thing in this league as much as people try to sell it to be. Our very own Alabi does, Corey Maggette does, they are nothing great in this league. Though there is something else that Biyombo separates himself from all who share a high parallel of work ethic. He listens. He will absorb whatever lesson you throw at him, he will try to derive its teachings and apply it to himself as best as he can. That in combination with a great work ethic, along with a canvas that combines a freak athlete and more freak wingspan, just screams out a future star.
I'm honestly not completely against us grabbing Jonas Valanciunas over Biyombo, as much as I like to troll and paint him another soft euro center scrub. I really don't believe that. I'm just disappointed that we missed out on a chance of having a great player like Biyombo whose potential can be great one day. I fully believe he'll be the second best center in the league right after Dwight Howard.

I agree with everything you said Choker, I been saying this since the NIke hoop summit, he reminds me of Dwight Howard. I would go as far as to say, BB has a better body at 18 then Dwight did. Like Dwight he'll probably play PF his rookie season but play center afterwards. we really did find ourselves a High boom and very little chance of a bust player. My advice to the bobcats FO? lock him up with Hakeem over the summer and possibly shaq. Ideally I would also like for him to develop a sky hook since his arms are so long.

Appreciate the insight you provide. And I assure you that everyone here hopes he can be the 2nd best Center in the league behind Dwight. I can live with that. Just as long as he man-handles Dwight once in a while to let him know that he is made of kryptonite and Superman must fear him.

That is key too. I believe he has the drive, work ethic, and passion to be a great player, but he can't do it alone. A lot of NBA greats worked with greats before their time. Have this guy work with Hakeem, Bill Walton, John Lucas, I mean anyone, he will develop nicely.

Re: Bismack Biyombo welcome to Bobcats thread
Given that our two leaders, Crash and Jax, are now our former leaders, there is a void to fill. I know DJ and Hendo will likely assume the roles for now. But clearly we know Kemba will work his butt off to take on the role as a leader of the Bobcats. But Biyombo has lots of swag also. And I just have a feeling that Kemba is smart enough to try and get in tight with Biyombo from the early on. Biyombo will be a team leader on this team just as Kemba will be one. And I dont know if DJ and Hendo have enough of the "it" factor to hold them off for long at all. I think by the end of theyear, people will look at this team as Kemba's and Biyombo's team.

Re: Bismack Biyombo welcome to Bobcats thread
Oh yeah, his leadership is another trait that I loved so much about him. Just watching him play he's kind of like a Joakim Noah leader; he's very vocal and is not afraid to raise his opinion. But unlike Noah, well at least the Noah I saw in his rookie year, he won't annoy you when things are going bad. That's what caused a lot of people turn their backs on him so early on. I don't want to raise his expectations toooooo much cause I'm not certain if it's true, but while he's a winner, he strikes me as a guy that knows winning isn't everything. If any of you have not yet read his life excerpts, I highly suggest it. Let's just say he didn't have it easy growing up and it may be the exact reason why his maturity has accelerated so much and have scouts thinking he's 26, which I don't believe; I think he's 18.
Man I'm really envious right now, I hate you guys.

Great pick. He has bust potential, but every defensive minded center does.. it depends on the situation imo and he's in a great situation in charlotte. Go Bismack!

You do know that the league leader in blocks last season was Bogut with 2.6 a game - and that was in 35.3mpg....................right?
Maybe we need to temper those expectations a little?

To clear up Biyombo contract confusion: Worst case, he pays a 1 million Euro buyout. Best case, he pays nothing. Either way its not an issue

I'm rather cautious to be plesantly surprised later but - he lead ACB with the same bpg as Bogut lead NBA and that was in far less playing time. Add his opinion that he will block more shots in NBA cause NBa players tend to force things one on one more and that at this stage of hi career he is on court mainly for blocks (and rebounds to some extent). Sure he would need to adjust, he is very probable to be in foul trouble often (partially because NBA is called based on reputation), but it is not out of question. Silas playing him as PF coulsd influence that too.
