Waiters or Rivers probably. Beal is okay, he doesn't have the ball on a string handle of Rivers or the explosiveness of Waiters but he's really well-rounded. He just doesn't seem to excel at any one thing, shooting is the closest and I could definitely seeing it getting there.
Barnes is kind of in the same boat. Not really any glaring weaknesses and the criticisms he has I think have more to do with UNC's system. The guy wasn't hyped up for nothing, I think he just coasted at UNC and the rest of his cohorts caught up with him in terms of game. If he puts in work, he really could be the best player in this draft. He's just such an enigma and I'm very leery of drafting Roy William's guys b/c I think he is just awful at individual development.
I'm still pretty high on Robinson, all in all he fills the most holes in our swiss cheese ship. Rebounding, energy, hopefully some post offense, built like a mac truck and is well versed with dealing with adversity. Stylistically he and Biz may not be an ideal fit but we know we'll be getting a frontcourt ready to go to war every game. He's pretty much the anti-DJ White so I'll golf clap if he's the pick.
I've ran MKG through the ringer but if you put a gun to my head, I'd still pick him over Barnes but more for "basketball reasons" than actual basketball reasons. I feel like if we drafted a Barnes or Beal or even Thor and they're shockingly what you see is what you get, we'll be hamstrung in terms of making trades. I think MKG is more likely to be a better asset b/c other GMs will always be interested in a young guy who's a winner, high motor, etc. Even if he's damaged goods, he'll still be fool's gold enough to get good value back. And who knows, maybe Dunlap and Co. can turn him into the star the media thinks he'll be.
But yeah, I'm still sticking with Drummond. None of the workouts or interviews have dispelled the notion that he can't be a superstar in time. He's just a big kid learning how to play and I think he genuinely cares about basketball. Sure, he's laid back but so is Duncan and there have been just as many busts that seemed gung ho about the game and improving coming into the league as not. All these guys have floors at average or slightly above average NBA players and I don't think Drummond's is any lower. The difference is unlike the rest, if Drummond becomes an average player, he's still got great size for this position and freakish athleticism, making him a valuable trade asset. By all accounts, Dunlap sounds a great coach for getting the most out of Drummond and we're definitely taking the slow rebuild seriously so why not draft the guy with the most potential?
