Then why are Phoenix so keen to get him back?

Because they're desperate, why trade him in the first place? They want to stay on the treadmill desperately, instead of just blowing it up

The analogy with Caleron is that hes gonna be the next mediocre euro pg with a toxic contract

It took Dragic 3 years in order to have a better PER then Kembas rookie season. statistically Dragics Per 36 mins stats have been around 14/6 thats DJ Augustin numbers, hes 25, he doesn't have much upside left, Don't overpay. I'd rather sign a undrafted rookie or some scrub like Lester Hudson then sign a mediocre PG to a 8+ mil deal

To keep things in perspective, didn't DJ have a great string of games after LB got fired? what happened after that? he fizzled out and remained mediocre, same thing will happen to Dragic after he gets paid.

Not even to mention you are stunting the growth of your PG of now and the future. If they do this I would not blame Kemba at all for wanting out of here at the end of his first contract.

If we're gonna follow the OKC model, then we need to do so and improve on it. the part of the OKC model that is perfect is that they didn't sign anybody to long term contractsuntil their corner pieces(Durant & Westbrook) were RFA's. we need to do the same thing in order to maintain cap flexibility, we need to draft a big 3 before we sign FA's to long term deals.

Perhaps Dragic is the cornerstone and Kemba is an extra.

Vanderbilt_Grad wrote:Dragic's numbers as a starter were very impressive. Abstractly I would love for him to be a Cat ... but the $9 mil number bugs me. Just seems a bit high given the overall body of work.

In additon to what was posted above number wise, Houston's defense was better with him as a starter as well so it's not like he's a huge liablity there either. That's the good news. He could easily be a starter on a lot of teams if he kept that kind of play up.

The bad news would be the contract IMHO. That $9 mil number would eat up a lot of the free space the team was talking about having this year. It would reduce the flexiblity they could have in getting more draft picks for next year.

This! We shouldn't use our cap space to over pay for a pg when we have on waiting in the wings. Do the Bobcats have any loyalty to their pgs? We should'nt do this and like you said use our flexibility for more picks.

Exactly! We need a superstar or 2 1st before we get long term contracts for 10-20 games of production in a contract year.

Ideally I would like to see him get 6-7 million a year for 3 years but I'm thinking if its a short term contract he would want it between 8-9 million instead.

He is not coming here. Agents are throwing the cats name out there to scare the team they really want.

whats the point of signing him to a 3 year contract? he won't turn us into a contender, and if hes as good as yall say he'll make our draft picks worse

In other words: they're both white. Gotcha

To repeat, they are nothing alike.

Well, if the Bobcats don't do anything to improve that weak frontcourt, I can still see us obtaining a top 5 pick next year.

Well we passed on Kevin Durant and Larry Johnson ...

But seriously, Cho might see Dragic as the franchise PG. If that's what his database thing says, then that's who we're targeting. We might have interest in him as a 6th man. You don't know unless a deal is inked and Dragic is at a press conference with Higgins and Cho in Bobcats garb.

This, I think Goran will be pretty good, but he is not elite. I do think he is in the next tier though. So 9/mil per year would be pretty good for him. He does play both ends of the floor and can do a bit of creating and has to be respected from the perimeter. Although I feel 9M/yr is a good rate for him, I don't see much point of us signing him. Don't get me wrong a PG of his caliber would make us at least 10-15 games better, but if he's only here 3 years what's the point?

PHX...drafting Kendall Marshall in the lottery and then giving Dragic a 4 year deal...LMAO

Glad they signed him though, now back to your regularly scheduled tank.

It would be really funny if Brooks goes back to Houston.
