Typically they suck but I think the new video boards will change that. I think upper seats will have a much better game experience now.

I've sat all over the arena. Court side, corners, second level, etc.
Not a bad seat in the house IMO. For the price, I kind of prefer to sit up top actually

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
I had nosebleed season tix for 8 years, in the corner behind the Hornets bench. Honestly, I liked my seats. I often passed up chances to move to other seats when asked and many nights the place was empty and I could have easily moved to a better seat by was happy with my view. Sitting up high is not for everyone, but it does have some advantages, such as being able to see the movement of players better than sitting close.
That being said, I do not like sitting behind the baskets on either level. I also had seats very close to the floor and it was hard to see the entire court. Sat right behind the Hornets bench once and I couldnt see a large chunk of the other end of the floor due to sightlines being blocked by crowd. Also sat near the Hornets tunnel once and hated it because if the constant stream of people walking up and down the stairs heading into the tunnel.
But no matter where you sit, the absolute worst possible seat in the arena is directly in front of a kid with a moron for a parent. Why? Because kids love to kick the **** out of the back of seats and if their parents are morons who don't have the decency to tell their kids to stop being little dicks, then it will be up to you to be the **** who has to tell the kid to stop or move or just sit there and take it.

I've had to be that **** a few times. It's happened on a flight before, and I just turned around and told the parent to tell the kid to quit kicking my seat. I don't care what they think, I'll never see them again

Can't tell what it was exactly, but @HornetsPR just retweeted something from Rick about Silas being one of the top assistants in the league as voted on by his peers. Of course when I tried to click I was met with the "you are blocked" message.

The team renovated a neighborhood basketball court in Dilworth (Charlotte neighborhood) and they're going all in on the dedication. Adam Silver and MJ are there, the entire team and coaching staff is there, pretty impressive how much they're committed. Bunch of stuff on twitter about it.

Not peers of Silas, but GMs. It's the 2016-2017 GM survey. The GMs returned the survey, voting on a whole list of questions, but not allowed to choose their own team.
Does this direct link to the survey results on NBA.com work for you?
http://www.nba.com/gmsurvey/2016
The Silas result was mentioned in the Around the NBA thread here. And there's a thread on the survey results in GD. And a wiretap article on the fact that the survey has GSW winning this upcoming season's finals and Lebron for MVP.
Silas was second choice as best assistant in the league, according to the GMs who voted in the survey (not every GM answered every question). Considering he can't even get the lead assistant spot with the Hornets (because of Ewing), that doesn't augur well for Silas staying long instead of being poached to be lead assistant elsewhere, or maybe even Head coach.

Yeah I've seen it since I first posted over 24 hours ago. I posted near-simultaneously with the Around the NBA post, I browse almost exclusively on mobile (don't see wiretap), and have made the decision to avoid the general board for my own sanity.

@ESPNSteinLine
Number making the rounds: Hearing that the midlevel exception is poised to rise into the $8 million range in the NBA's new CBA up from $5.6M
This was very needed with the rapidly increasing cap killing the value of the MLE each year. Though I still don't understand why the MLE isn't just set each year at a percentage of the cap.

For real, what possible excuse could there be for not pegging the MLE to a fixed % of the cap? Rewards over the cap teams too much?

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
No doubt younger and many small market teams would prefer a capped (or no) MLE. The $8m would provide a better return in a developmental capacity....rookie scales, an extra roster spot(s), D-league salaries, overseas buyouts, adding a 3rd round to the draft, etc....
I get why the NBAPA protects the middle class but the talent drops off a cliff between players 1 through 8 compared to the razor thin margins 8 through 16. Yet 1 employee will arbitrarily earn $8m, another ~ $1m, and unlucky employee's 16 through 25 fast food wages depending on CBA.
At the very least, teams should be allowed to choose how to leverage the MLE. Let the Knicks use their $8m on washed up vets while teams like Charlotte or Denver lay infrastructure.

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
Series of tweets from @ESPNSteinLine on the new CBA.
One of the feature of the new NBA deal, sources say, will be the ability of teams to extend players up to five and in some cases six seasons.
The new deal, sources say, will enable teams to choose a Designated Vet, like we see now with DP Rookie Extensions, for a LENGTHY new deal
NBA Players Association officials managed to secure changes to the NBA's licensing agreement they had been seeking.

@ZachLowe_NBA
Key note re new Designated Player extension: salary in Year 1 of ext can be any amt up to 35% of cap (i.e. max) even if team has no cap room
Only guys who meet various performance criteria -- including All-NBA team -- will be eligible for Designated Player extensions, sources say
Veterans who don't meet those performance criteria will still have lower ceilings on what they can earn in Year 1 of any extensions.

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
That's huge for younger stars. It's like an expanded Rose rule or something. Karl Anthony Towns is probably going to be an extremely rich man. By the sound of it, if he meets the criteria, he may be able to receive 35% instead of 25%... which puts him at the same tier as a LeBron or any other superstar with 10+ years. WOW.

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
And some notes from Woj:
The league and union have agreed to extend the Thursday deadline to opt out of the previous deal until Jan. 13 to allow the sides to ratify the agreement.
No change in the basketball-related income split of 50-50 and negligible change in the salary-cap and luxury-tax rules.
The NBA’s 36-and-over rule that prohibits players from signing a five-year maximum contract if their 36th birthday falls during the life of the deal has changed to a 38-and-under [sic: "over"] rule. This means union president Chris Paul, a perennial All-Star, is eligible for a five-year, $207 million deal to stay with Los Angeles this summer.
For now, the NBA will keep its one-and-done rule...nevertheless, the league and union will continue discussing alternatives to the draft-entry rule. The NBA has been advocating a rule that forces American players to spend two years in college – or outside the NBA – before becoming eligible for entry into the NBA draft.
The NBA will raise rookie, veteran minimum and mid-level exception salaries by 50 percent, pushing the average salary of an NBA player in the range of $8.5 million, league sources said.
With two-way contracts between the NBA and NBA Development League, teams can control the development of younger players in the D-League without the fear of losing them to other teams. The union gets more jobs for players with each team able to have 16th and 17th roster spots for players shuttling between leagues. For some players, this will make it more financially feasible to pass over more lucrative overseas contracts to stay in the NBA/D-League.

Re: Front Office/CBA/Contracts/Marketing Thread
We're approaching the guarantee date of January 10 for Harrison and Graham. Just as it sounds, deals become fully guaranteed if not cut by then. Graham is probably safe, but the team could easily opt for having the flexibility of an open spot over Harrison.
Not as notable, but also that week (1-15-17) the no-trade restrictions on Marvin and Nic are lifted.
