Seems like he might of been selling Cho on his ability to turn Biz into a stud. Bringing in Ewing to work on his offense and using his defensive experience with Dwight.

Dunlap tried to install the Thibadeau theory but he clearly didnt have all the players understanding it the right way. our guys were never on a string and as a result we gave up ridic amount of 3pters. hope Clifford gets through to them

In a telephone interview, Stan Van Gundy credits Clifford with assisting in the development of Magic big men Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, Ryan Anderson and Earl Clark. Though Clifford has a reputation as a defensive-minded coach, Van Gundy said Clifford "is not a specialist."
"He has got it all," Van Gundy said. "He's a great Xs and Os guy and he has got a great ability to teach and he has great relationships with players. He's very much into preparation. He won't take any shortcuts. Steve will put a great emphasis on developing players. Not just skill development, but using film, talking to guys individually, spending time with them. And on the court he will emphasize defense, ball movement and guys playing together. He will be a fabulous head coach."

This. Clifford instead of Gentry gives me some reason for optimism even though his resume' reads like a revised and upgraded version of Dunlap.

not really crazy about it....of course he is a people person, front offices always go for the opposite of the last coach.

Wasn't that supposed to be Dunlap?

I guess the writers at HOOPSWORLD think the same of Clifford.

I do too. He is what Dunlap was supposed to be. A guy who develops young talent but knows how to deal with NBA players and run an NBA system. This guy has been in the NBA for a long time and knows how things work.

I like the choice. After doing a lot of reading and hearing reactions to Clifford, I think Cho got it right. Sounds like Clifford's star is on the rise.

Indeed, based on that synopsis it does read like he's the type of coach that'll work wonders with Anthony Bennett's talent, especially considering how Earl Clark broke out in LA with him assistant coaching there.

I would guess that Clifford would have some form of overvalued respect for Hendo's game as a Lakers assistant since he averaged 20 points against them last year and had that monstrous dunk on Dwight's head. Marquee Hendo FTW

Shoot now you have to trade with Minny. Give him Williams and a big guy at 9 and let him go to work.

after further digging, i guess clifford is all right. while he may still flame out and be the wrong choice or whatever come a year from now, his resume has a lot more relevant experience and success than dunlap's did.

Obviously the hope is that his success with team defenses in Houston and Orlando can carry over. Im still disappointed though that they didnt go after Nate McMillan.

I read somewhere recently that he is a version of Thibodeau with people skills or that people actually like.
