Kemba Walker- Grieves Vasquez- Spencer Dinwiddie(45th)
Gordon Hayward(FA)- Gerald Henderson- Gary Neal
MKG- Cleanthony Early(24th)-Jeff Taylor
Aaron Gordon(9)- Cody Zeller
Big Al- Biz- Haywood

Give Hayward around 4 year 36 million. Grieves 3 year 12 million.

I would take that right now even without Hayward.

I'll double dip on SG and draft LaVine and PJ Hairston as a backup plan.. LaVine can split minutes between PG/SG while he develops an NBA body

Kemba/Sessions/LaVine
Hairston/LaVine/Neal
MKG/Hendo/Taylor
Monroe/Zeller/Adrien
Big AL/Biyombo

Hopefully Hairston can take the starting spot from Henderson by season end

I think we would have to trade Hendo. I can't see him taking a backup role.

How about this scenario?

1) Draft McDermott for the Suns #14 + #18 pick
2) Select Zach LaVine with pick 14 + Ryan Anderson with pick 18
3) Trade Gary Neal + pick 24 to the Magic for Arron Afflalo (2 years to develop LaVine)
4) Sign Luol Deng for 2 years (2 years to develop MKG)

PG-Kemba Walker/Zach LaVine/FA
SG-Arron Afflalo/Gerald Henderson/Zach LaVine
SF-Luol Deng/Michael Kidd-Gilchrist/Jeffrey Taylor
PF-Cody Zeller/Kyle Anderson (edit)/FA
C-Al Jefferson/Bismack Biyombo

I think you mean Kyle Anderson and I am not a fan of this. Still stuck with Henderson and spent way to much on Deng and AA both. Would rather stay at 9 pick a starter and save on one of AA or Deng. Then sign a starting caliber PF. For all the development you are talking about you decided to start our worst young player here.

Why was I thinking Ryan Anderson? WTF.

We'd be developing LaVine for SG, MKG for SF, Cody Zeller for PF, Ryan Anderson for PF and Biyombo for C.

That's 5 guys not including Kemba and he has plenty of drive to develop further!!! 6 guys!

Then we'd have 3 win-now guys in Afflalo + Deng + Jefferson, not including Kemba. 4 guys!

That's a nice 60/40 split imo.

It will never happen but it's fun.

conservative approach

draft mcdermott @ 9
trade henderson + 24, 45 to orlando for afflalo (or henderson + lottery protected 2015 1st)
sign vasquez 3y/15mil
sign mcroberts 3y/14mil
sign ed davis (not really sure how much he would cost, but if reasonable would be good fit)
fill out rest of roster with 1y deals - ideally a young defensive pg and a 3pt shooting sg.

pg: kemba/vasquez/cheap fa
sg: afflalo/neal/cheap fa
sf: mkg/mcdermott/taylor
pf: mcroberts/zeller/davis
c: jefferson/biyombo/haywood

outside shooting, backup pg and bench scoring is greatly improved.

I wouldn't be surprised if our roster looks exactly like this opening night. I like it.

Here's my stab. It's comprised of players that I want to see on the Hornets, that's what fantasy GMing is all about, right?

Sign Shawn Livingston. Love that dude. Play him with Kemba on occassion guarding the 2 on D.
Sign Melo, use Jordan Brand influence. I want a scorer who can score anywhere on the floor and hit 3s if needed. Screw Defense.
Trade the 9 + 45 to Boston for the 6 + Gerald Wallace's contract. Allow him to come to peace with Charlotte and have his number retired as the only Bobcat number to be retired ever. Also somehow convince Gerald to retire after playing one game as a Hornet.
Trade the 6 + 24 + MKG + Hendo to Philly for the 3. Hendo goes home, Philly gets talent and more picks. Select Wiggins.
Bring Back McBob

10 man rotation of:
PG: Kemba / Livingston
SG: Wiggins / Neal
SF: Melo / JT
PF: McBob / Zeller
C: Al / Biz

Yeah, not doable. But I can dream.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

9 + 45 for 6 + Wallace wouldn't even work salary wise if we wanted Melo. Your MKG trade is like the only possible scenario in which I'd trade MKG and not hate myself.

Wallace has one of the 3 or 4 worst contracts in the league. Loved the guy to death, but I pass on that.

#9, #24, Hendo, MKG, Zeller, Neal to Minnesota for Love and Kevin Martin.

sign Trevor Ariza, Anthony Morrow, Livingston

Kemba, Livingston, #45 pick (best of available)
Martin, Morrow
Ariza, CDR, Taylor
Love, McRoberts
Al, Biyombo, Haywood

This lineup definitely spreads the floor for big Al, and gives Kemba lots of options on the floor.

Trade for Afflalo, trade for Paul Millsaps, sign Ariza, sign Morrow, sign Patty Mills, and sign Fredette

Kemba, Patty Mills, Fredette
Afflalo, Neal, Morrow
Ariza, MKG, Taylor
Millsaps, McRoberts
Al, Biyombo, Haywood

Martin, Love, and Al all in the same starting lineup would be a defensive nightmare.

Draft

Hornets stand pat and use all their draft picks. They land Nik Stauskas at 9, Elfrid Payton at 24, and random project big or EU guy who will stay overseas next year.

Free Agency

McBob opts out, but instead of resigning him the Hornets go after and land Kris Humphries instead. They use their remaining cap space on Steve Blake and CDR.

Trades

The Hornets trade Gary Neal straight up to the Clippers for Jared Dudley. This is potentially a downgrade if Dudley stays as bad as he did last year … but if he regains even a bit of his Phoenix form then he could push MKG for the starting job.

PG – Kemba, Blake, Payton
SG – Hendo, Nik
SF – MKG, Dudley, CDR
PF – Humphries, Zeller
C – Jefferson, Biyombo, Dust Chip or project guy

Essentially the team is 3 deep at PG with a Kemba backup who has major range and a young prospect with enough D to play right away if one of the two guys in front of him is injured.

They have 5 wing players, 3 of whom are at least OK 3 point threats. By year’s end Hendo is 6th man and either Nik, CDR, or Dudley (with MKG as a 2) is starting.

The Big Man rotation is mostly Jefferson, Humph, and Zeller, with Biz getting shots every time someone is hurt. Humph gives Cliff enough stretch that he opens up space for MKG and the rest of the team … but enough inside presence that the team still can run something like the Alfence with Al on the bench.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Return to Charlotte Hornets
