Whats your take on Wood?

He's a 2016 1st round talent w/o the multi-year guarantee. Cho assessed the landscape and realized young talent could be had during SL and I'd expect 1 more. And it's a 1 year contract should his professionalism be lacking so really no downside.

I like this signing. He makes looking for a nickname easier.

Wood also illustrates a GM's double-edged sword. Fans see physical #upside but forget BB awareness is upside, too. If/when Wood fails it'll be painted as management's fault cause highlight videos and that 1 time CW's mop-duty dunk brought the house down.

And believe me, I like the signing it's just that expectations are rarely properly calibrated w/players like Wood. He slid past round 1 and was available in FA for a reason.

Been keeping tabs on this guy for a while now, definite breakout candidate in my view. Good signing.

I'm concerned that he doesn't play with the #energy of Jason Maxiell.

I do believe Cho is 100% next frontier. While most teams play catchup converting athletic wings to PF Cho is mining legitimate playmaking 4/5's. Hitting on several + the aforementioned wings is ideal.

Agreed. Can we issue a board wide approval of this?! From now on Christian Wood is our rookie draft pick selected at #22 in the 2016 NBA draft.

Im sick of thinking about that bellinelli trade and this could be funny when outsiders try to correct us.

Change the thread title to

"Rookie of the Year Watch - Christian Wood"

Now we just need a developmental wing and we'll be set. I think the ideal roster setup under the current 15 man roster limitation is to have 12 veterans with at least one of them on an easily waive-able one year minimum contract and 3 young developmental players at the end of the bench. And ideally you'd have a guard, a big, and a wing as those three players. Right now we have Harrison, Wood, and ____?

Love this thread.

Really like this signing whether it works out or not. Wood is only 20 and has shown signs of production - is the type of player we need to be signing to just-beyond-the-rotation slots.

If developed well, he might be better than Zeller someday.
If Clifford treats him like how he treats Frank, he might really have a chance.
If Clifford uses him like Hansbrough, he isn't going to develop much.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

I now have something to look forward to in 2K17. Whether Wood is complete garbage or not, he immediately becomes the most fun player to run with :)

He does remind me a lot of Tyrus Thomas, just watched vids. Eeek.

FWIW - DX has him at 6' 10.5" in shoes

EDIT: Granted, Wood is a complete unproven, but I think you need to balance any impression that he's a FA for a reason with the fact that the 76ers have a frontcourt glut and Saric just signed, so it just may prove to be a great little cherry pick by the Cho.
