Re: Hornets sign MCW
I mean he is a big point and can play both guard spots....but he is also complete trash so that's a bonus.
MCW needs to watch the hell out of Livingston and do what ever he is doing because that's how he is going to stick in this league

Re: Hornets sign MCW
Maybe Fred H. Is just a horrible coach.
Kemba / MCW
Batum / Monk
MKG / Lamb
Marv / Frank
D12 / Zeller
God, I hope Kemba doesn't get injured.

Jason Kidd and Brett Brown too.

Or surely we could have gotten a player from Cheating Chapel Hill College.

To be fair, until the other day you thought he was a bad defensive PG when routinely he's had top 5 DRPM for a PG. Maybe pump the brakes.

Brown made him ROY, and he and Clifford have known each other forever.

Battle of the hyphens.
It would have been better to trade Mr. Kidd-Gilchrist and bring in a quality backup point guard or combo guard. I have never been a fan of Carter-Williams' game--he never got over starting his career on the one of the most dreadful teams in NBA history.
He averaged only marginally more assists per 36 last season, 4.8, than Brian Roberts, at 4.5. Sessions, at least, had 5.7, and I never liked Sessions, either.

I still believe his defense is overrated. He's not very quick laterally.

Might be right, but across the board his defensive metrics are impressive. PNR defense ppp, DRPM, DFG%, all top notch. I think he's more likely underrated as opposed to overrated.
I thought you'd be all about this because this means Lamb is going to have a more significant offensive role.

Re: Hornets sign MCW
He is on a cheap deal and long enough to guard 2, could be a nice fit next to Monk. I'm ok.

Garbage player. Bad fit. Pointless waste of cap space.

Re: Hornets sign MCW
For all his warts...I really can't complain about such a short-term, inexpensive deal.
The fit makes sense too; a big, defensive guard should offer a nice balance to lineups involving Kemba and/or Monk.
This probably doesn't happen without Lin. No doubt MCW and his agent saw how much Lin was featured, even as a backup, and parlayed that into $12M per year.

Re: Hornets sign MCW
Wanted a high quality veteran BUT after seeing what type of money those guys were getting paid, this actually turned into the best case scenario for the Hornets.
He is Cliffs next great rebuild project. McBob, Lin & Lee got great contracts after stints with us so that is probably what sold MCW.
Now positives:
1. Size
2. Defense, can guard multiple positions
3. CHEAP!
Negatives:
1. Shooting
2. Under performed
3. If does well, we are in the same position next yr looking for a back-up PG
With Monk, Frank, Lamb, Zeller we have plenty of scoring. MCW might excel having a great pick player like Zeller. He will not be asked to be a scorer and shooter which bodes well for him. We have Weber to back-up in case it doesn't work out. Either way we had Sessions and Roberts last year. This is an upgrade at a reduced cost and has potential.

Its annoying that we are signing scrubs like MCW to avoid barely going over the tax instead of using the full MLE.
Or....we are signing defensive minded PGs because we want to play Monk but know he needs help on that end? Have you seen a better option at PG that went to a new team for the MLE?
And last offseason Roy Hibbert was the strong inside presence and rim protector that we needed. Its possible to manufacture positive spin for just about any player.

Re: Hornets sign MCW
I was more interested in Tyreke and Rondo, but I'm always amazed at the negativity around here.
MCW was being courted by Houston, OKC, Dallas, and New Orleans but he signed with us. If that isn't a sign of organizational strength I don't know what is.
He has a lot to play for and he's talented, we need to get behind him and give him a chance. He's a Hornet now, so I'm a fan.

Theres nothing wrong with signing him at what we did. I think its pretty solid, actually.

Agreed. Honestly with the money we had to spend this was a good signing. We beat out those teams while paying him very little even better!

Gonna be difficult for Lamb to play with this offensive clutz of a hyphenated name throwing up airballed layups and defenses daring him to shoot 3s knowing it'll likely clank off the side of the backboard.
