Would be curious to see what the second highest offer for him was. I REALLY hope serious looks were taken at his medical, don't love the comparison to Batum. Batum had on and off struggles with assertiveness and engagement. Hayward as long as he isn't the 4th option will always play hard. I don't think we were going to use a clean cap sheet for much anyways, moreso bummed about the 4th year. But next few years, our guys won't be on big deals yet and Hayward (IF HEALTHY) gives the team much needed stability on the wing. He also can help with playmaking which is good for LaMelo.

he missed 111 games in 3 years. this is super chandler parsons territory

He’s missed 81 games in the 17-18 with the injury in the season opener. He played 72/82 games rehabbing the following year. He’s not damaged goods. He had a great year last year.

If there was ever a time to take a chance on a guy that could be an injury away from irrelevant, it is now. At worst, Hayward gets an injury and is never the same. We don't have to worry about ruining our rebuild fighting for an 8th seed. This is the feast or famine type play.

you don't "take a chance" with 4 years/120 million

Look at it like this. When he comes off the books, we will be looking to give Lamelo a max. If Hayward gets injured and doesn't play to his contract, we'll be picking high lotto for next 3 years. There is seriously no downside to this from a rebuilding perspective.

look, if we didn't sign hayward just now we would've been in a spot to give your guy TWO max contract players to work with

all thats in the trash now

I already see it.

Hayward is going to average 20/5/5....but not be good enough to drag us into the playoffs. We'll pick 9th and pick whoever falls in the draft....again.

Disagree with this move. We way overpaid him, and he has been mediocure at best last few years. Solid teamate but not worth the high payout. I actually like Miles and would have rather put the money elsewhere. To me he's slightly better than Batum as far as big payout low return. His return is better than Batum but not by much. Had a good year last year but might have been playing for a contract. I doubt it but who knows.

He missed one season really. He played in 72 games the next season and all the games last season. He does seem healthy and he was a better player then Parson. Parson had like 2 actual healthy seasons in his whole career.

I actually like your team.

1) Love getting Hayward.
2) Hate the price.
3) If we lose Terry, OK. Cody, meh. Miles, we riot.
4) MJ, for the third time in his tenure, sold the future for a first-round playoff exit. I’ll be excited when we finish eighth in the East, and will probably hit up a home playoff game if it’s advisable, but the team’s future was again mortgaged today.

No idea what we are doing... if Hayward is healthy he is a borderline allstar, but not sure what we are doing.

In terms of worst contracts in the NBA I think this deal is still better than trading for Wiggins or Wall, but not sure that's a great angle to look at right now.

I mean my gut reaction is that this is an absolute disaster.

Right as I was coming around to embracing the 1-2 year rebuild and having unlimited options as far as cap space, we throw all of that away for, very possibly, Batum 2.0. 4/$120mil?????

It'd be one thing if he was 25 and had zero injury history (and we were trying to win). But nah. 30, made of glass, and it directly contradicts all of the moves we've made for the past 2 years. So that's neat.

Just why man.................

This team is incapable of not blowing up a rebuild a year or two too soon.

Did it with Al.
Did it with Nic.
Doing it now with Hayward.

Not happy with the $$, but love the fit.

We desperately needed a vet shooter on the wing to bring some glue to the young core. Odds are Rozier gets moved soon which opens up some money. The overall cap sucks for 2020-21, but after that it's not as bad.

There is def risk given his injury history, and it does scare me to think that we have a Chandler Parsons-esque signing here. However, I really love the player given our current, and future roster. At 30, he's not as old as a Chris Paul or Westbrook kind of signing, and IMO, a much better team player than either of those two.

Any chance we go small ball:

LaMelo
Graham
Hayward
Bridges
PJ

He's likely getting traded to Indiana as soon as the moratorium is up. Y'all need to chill with the overreaction.

Actually I change my mind. It's not THAT bad of a move if bad at all because if Hayward can continue playing like he did last year and if LaMelo pans out we have two players who can lure other big names in to play for us. I think we should trade Graham and Rozier

I have to be honest. I don't think the Annual salary is that bad. Rumors were Pacers were looking at 25 million, Knicks apparently were offering more than that. It is more the fact that he got 4 years...

3 for 90 would of still been bad, but I would be more behind the offer.

Rozier could be heading to Knicks... they apparently liked him.

Scored, rebounded, assisted as 4th option on really good shooting splits. He put 18 as the 4th option, that’ll easily be over 20ppg here on similar efficiency most likely. He’s good in pick and roll, another playmaker so we won’t be overly dependent on Ball and Graham. I think Rozuer may be on the way out now. Hayward is also big enough to play the 4 when you want to go small with PJ at the 5.

Can't trade him until trade deadline mid season.
