“I just attribute [his shooting improvements] to his work rate and work ethic,” said Hornets Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson, shortly after Simpson was drafted. “We had some long conversations about how he was able to improve in those areas and he essentially locked himself in a gym until he got very, very comfortable. I love his shot profile. Guards that make shots off the bounce are a little bit more dangerous and he can do that. He had natural maturation in terms of probably taking some better ones. He had a pretty good sample size from 3-point land and obviously, was able to shoot it at a high clip this year.”

Re: Welcome KJ Simpson
After recent roster moves, I understand that they wanted KJ for attitude and culture change, but my objection remains that there were wings and centers - Harrison Ingram, Pelle Larsson, Kevin McCullar, PJ Hall, Quinten Post are a few examples that were still on the board - who could have brought heart and effort plus 3&D or Stretch 5 skillsets that are more needed on this roster. You look at the current depth chart, Ball Micic Jackson Mann NSJ Simpson. How does Simpson ever see playing time? He will look great in Greensboro but unless a few guys are shipped will never see the court for the parent club. Meanwhile, who is on the wing with Brandon? Cody Martin? Leaky Black? And no stretch 5 to give the Center position a different look. To me this was a missed opportunity. I think this pick was thrown away.
Anyway, second round stuff, 'nuff said, I'm gonna go adjust my attitude now

Micic and Jackson are 30 and 34, respectively. I wouldn't count them in the long term picture. Mann and Simpson aren't mutually exclusive, though I don't love how small that backcourt pairing is. NSJ is the bigger player between he and Mann but with the latter being the more ready player right now.
I would have liked to add some size but this roster is far from complete as we see it now. I can't blame Peterson for bringing in a guy he sees as specific to his vision. As others have mentioned, he's on a two way so it's not as though they're signaling he's ready tomorrow anyway. Wait and see for me.

Re: Two Way Contract: The KJ Simpson Thread
All 2nd round picks are total shots on the dark. KJ could bust, he could be the next Jalen Brunson. Team obviously saw something in him to suggest the latter

Re: Two Way Contract: The KJ Simpson Thread
It's just one game, but he and NSJ should have a shot to take Curry's spot in the rotation. We need more players who can attack the rim or create their own shot.

Re: Two Way Contract: The KJ Simpson Thread
He’s a limited player, definitely a 2nd rounder, but the difference he made pushing the ball and getting guys the ball in their spots made a world of difference. Scrappy and intelligent. It just goes to show how starved we are for playmaking on this team, that a rookie G Leaguer can have this level of impact and close games. Still, the kid is a gamer and plays the right way. I’m sure the coaches love him

I think we finally have a backup point guard. He’s not completely ready but he’ll get there soon

I was expecting some big game based on this post, look at the box and see 8/1 on 10 shots in 26 minutes lol. Hard times out here, that’s some Ish Smith production

Eh he controlled the game and made some nice plays. I’d rather see him than Micic.

Re: Two Way Contract: The KJ Simpson Thread
Simpson looked much more comfortable out there yesterday than he did earlier in the year and seemed to know where he needed to be on the floor to make a few plays. Nothing mind blowing, but he looked like be belonged last night while earlier in the year he was just floating around skittishly waiting to do something.
He may not be the long-term backup solution but he gave more effort and injected more life into the team than Micic. Also competed well on defense, created several turnovers just through hustle. It's definitely worth giving him more run to see if this improvement continues.

He couldn’t shoot or score. Missed two FTs at the end which is unforgivable as a PG. as bad as Micic is, KJ was not much better. We scored <30 points in the 2nd half with him running the show.
What we need is actual NBA talent. Micic is not that. KJ sadly is more like G League talent.
