I'm gonna estimate that wells found lamelo no less than 20 times in that game and got called for a quarter of it. But how did that dude go 39th?

Wells set the tone early (literally first couple possessions) and stuck with it. He forced the refs to either foul him out in the 1st quarter or let it slide for the most part, and they chose the latter.

It's not the worst strategy when it works, but I suspect if our guys did that the zebras would just enforce the rules as intended.

While I don't necessarily disagree, you'd certainly hope what's supposed to be an All-NBA caliber player could adjust to it

There were some folks ready to move on from Mark Williams and draft Clingan or Zach Edey as the new starter... smh.

Mark 38 pts vs Edey 7 pts. Clingan averaging 5.5 ppg. Lol

You wanted to spend the 6th overall pick to draft a backup for one of 3 best players? That might actually be worse.

have the last 20 years of Bobcats/Hornets basketball not taught you anything about the value of actual quality backup PGs and Cs?

in any case, that logic falls flat because there's like no chance Salaun even overtakes Bridges while Bridges is on his current contract

The difference is Miles and Salaun can play together at the same time. That is the value of drafting big wings who can stretch the floor. There is a never situation where Edey and Mark are playing together.

That was my plan. But also for insurance for when he's not available since playing guys like Nick Richards 30+ mins per game means we'll never win. If we had Clingan or Edey behind Mark right now, we'd have one of the most solid C rotations in the league plus basically always have a size advantage at that spot. We get killed on depth and if you could get a depth piece out of this draft then it's a W. Instead, we got a "might be someday or might not be ever NBA rotational player" out of this draft with the 6th pick.

Indeed, as many here were wanting us to trade Nick this season. Would love having Clingan here backing Mark. For all the love Moose has, his regular reserve minutes are producing very modest results.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Last night was the game where I wanted to see coach Lee get ejected in the first half for screaming at the refs for allowing Memphis to foul melo Repeatedly with no consequences. We got bullied and pushed around from the jump.

What has Clingan showed this year that you think he is better than Nick was or better than Moussa has been though?

The Grizzlies are the #3 seed, we are never getting the benefit of the whistle especially in Memphis. Maybe one day when Charlotte is actually the team with more wins we will get the whistle we want but no ref is worried about giving the team with 11 wins the benefit of the doubt in this league.

Obviously

But there's been systemic treatment against him all season from the refs no matter the opponent. I don't see any other guards in the league that get fouled as often as melo without getting calls. Last night was one of the more egregious cases of a player hand checking him. But we've also seen him get repeatedly fouled on drives to the rim over and over and over all season with no calls. And it's not just about the fact that we're not a good team. No I don't expect Lee to go nuts every single game complaining of the refs. that doesn't do anyone any good. But every now and then as a coach you have to lose your ****. Sometimes you have to just make a stink about something for it to change. Other part of that is you let the players know that you have their back and maybe just maybe you light a fire under them in a game where it got out of control really quickly. For me, the last night was the night for Lee to lose his ****.

The other part of that is more difficult to change which is personnel and mindset. As a team are small and weak or not a tough team. Clifford ranted about it repeatedly last two seasons. Were even smaller now having lost grant, traded nick, lost Miller, and sent salaun To the G League. Obviously the one that really hurts is losing grant because he was the one player who was tough minded and also had the strength and girth not to back down from teams that tried the bully us. As a player, melo has to learn how to take advantage of over aggressive physical defenders, learn how to sell those fouls make it obvious. As a team and as a coaching staff they have to figure out a way to punish teams That are overly physical and fouling.

Someone’s been needing to open their wallet and take a fine on Melos ref treatment for years

I do also think they generally let him play with a pretty generous interpretation of the rule book on his handles and footwork so maybe that’s the trade off he’s been asked to accept

Return to Charlotte Hornets
