We can try to resign him at seasons end, right?

Well, he would be fair game for everyone next summer.

Worth noting - as I did a page or so ago - we haven't heard anything about Kemba or MKG's options either, so I suspect all three will be announced today.

We have cap space, and I'd say Biz has shown enough improvement (yeah yeah preseason) to warrant an $800k raise.

Yes, the Bobcats would have bird rights provided Biyombo finishes the season with Charlotte. But you'll have a harder time convincing him to come back since you chose not to exercise his option.

Also, if he somehow plays well like 8ppg/9reb/2.5blks/50%fg or something, then it'll cost more than the $3.8M for next year to sign him.

I didn't think you could pay a player more than the rookie scale until their fifth season, wasn't that why the Rockets got Lin and Asik on backloaded deals?

If we don't get his option picked up, I'll be royally pissed. We didn't invest three years and $9M just to dump him as he's showing progress. Cho isn't that stupid.

Unless we resign him to a McRoberts type deal in the off season.

Even the most optimistic fans on this board don't expect to see those numbers.

Great news!

Something as simple as exercising no brainer options is hectic for a Bobcats fan :(

I guess we should expect biyombo to also grow wings and hover up and down the court and thats still more likely than 8ppgs and 9rebs

bonnell seems determined to convince us that picking up his option was not a no brainer

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 2m

The Kings not picking up option on Jimmer Fredette (10th pick in 2011) illustrates these are no longer default decisions.

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 4m

From your comments, many of you saw that Biz option today as a foregone conclusion. No, it really wasn't.

biz has played nearly 2x as many minutes as jimmer (3600 to 2100) minutes to this point in their careers. jimmer has never been a rotation player. biz has. teams pay for bigs, not undersized shooting guards. jimmer was a finished product coming out of college, biz was youngest player in the league. the comparison makes no sense.

the bobcats always knew biz was a long term and expensive (both in terms of salary and draft pick) project. they didnt even expect biz to play in that first year. why would they give up on him now?

you cant find a solid shot blocking athletic big man with upside for less than what biz will make.

the only reason to let biz go to free agency would be in the cats felt they could chase a max level player this summer. we all know that isnt going to happen.

the kings have to build around cousins now. they cant wait on more young players like jimmer to develop. freeing up money to bring in a player who can help now is best move for kings. the clock is ticking now that they resigned cousins.

perhaps bonnell has some inside info on this and he knows that cho and higgins were really debating this move. if that is the case, then just say so. but using examples like jimmer to make a point arent helping his stance.

Jimmer has sucked ass since day one. Jimmer's one elite skill: Shooting. And he hasn't been setting the world on fire with that. Even on his worse days, Biz usually gives you his one elite skill: Blocking shots.

I agree, terrible comparison.

Can't say I disagree with this, but that doesn't exactly fill the average fan with hope over Biz's improvement. At the end of the day, Biz is still a 21-year-old figuring out the game. If he shows that he's headed in the right direction, we've got to keep him.

It's almost too easy to feel down on Biyombo sometimes when you watch him play, but that's only to the casual fan. I value his ability to defend the paint and I'm becoming even more enamored by his ability to rebound lately. I'm just hoping that Biyombo can develop a offensive game that's at least average
