It's very exciting to see Nik Stauskas in Charlotte today.
I have been one of the biggest trumpeters of Doug McDermott on this board, and I will be over the moon if we are able to select him.
But I felt visceral excitement seeing pics of Nik at TWC today. I will be one happy Hornet fan is Stauskas is our consolation prize at 9.
We really lucked out with that DET pick, yeah!!!

Too bad Harris doesn't have NBA size. Hopefully Clifford really means what he said and we pass on the 6'2 SG.

Nothing. That was the first thought that came to my mind when I saw the quote so I responded. I'll try to refrain from going off-topic in the future.

The Harris bashing goes on, on literally every thread on here. Gets a tad annoying.

Edit: Not referring to your post ARHornet, just in general.

Kemba/Stauskas/MKG is pretty much a perfect fit. Too perfect to happen. someone will trade up to 8 and steal him from us

Good thing all three of Stauskas, McDermott, and LaVine can't all be gone. All three would be fantastic for Kemba, Al, and MKG. If they are all gone (which is INCREDIBLY unlikely), then it means there's at least one or two of the "top 6" left on the board.

Saw this a couple weeks ago. Its probably from the high school 3 point line, but either way its impressive.

As strong as I like Stauskas' Game, I'm not so impress to see that...

It's probably his own basketball field at home or something, the basket he has always trained on.

I also have my similar training field (yeah ok, maybe not so beautiful with the lines and stuff..) and I guess I could score like 80-90% from that range on 30-40 shoots (not 70). I've been playing on that field since I'm 8 or so. I could almost shoot without looking 8-)

Stauskas is a future NBA player, so I expect him to put those number on his training field.

However the thing I really liked about the video, is that he was training in the rain, which proves that he is dedicated to the game. And I like that mentality !

9. Image Nik Stauskas

Charlotte ranked as one of the worst perimeter shooting teams in the NBA last year, and will be looking to address this issue in a major way this offseason. If Doug McDermott is indeed off the board, the Hornets could gravitate towards the player many consider the second best shooter in the draft, Nik Stauskas.

I like Doug a lot as a player, but I just don't see how he fits with us better than Nik.

If we start Doug, do we bench MKG? Do we play MKG at 2G and Doug at SF? (That would be ideal, I guess).

If we bring him off the bench, we'll likely have Neal and McDermott guarding the wing positions. Yikes.

If we draft McDermott, he'll add beyond quality depth combined with above average perimeter shooting, as well as a option to fall back on if MKG doesn't pan out in Clifford's grand scheme of things. As currently constructed, the Hornets don't even have a legitimate 6th man, unless you want to call Gary Neal such. If Neal is the most dependable source of offense on your 2nd unit, then you're doomed to fail

It's not as if, if Stauskas is drafted that he'll start over Henderson anyway

Just because Clifford would still start Henderson doesn't mean Nik wouldn't be a better option to start. Also just because we draft Doug doesn't mean he would do anything but get 10-17 minutes off the bench depending on who we bring back. Clifford either has to adjust his way of thinking or anyone we take will not get many minutes right away.

“The guys who play for the best coaches are the ones that have the advantage,” Clifford said. “It’s those who play in structured programs where they have demands put on them, have been forced to work hard every day and play in big games.

More Big Ten love from the front office?

I hope so.

Coach Clifford admits to seeing "lots of tape" on Stauskas. It seems he slipped up and tried to recover by mentioning the other players at the workout he is seeing for the first time and suggesting he would be "very careful" about giving his opinion of a draftee. And the way he said it it didn't seem like he'd been shown "lots of tape" on Stauskas crammed into a recent session but perhaps spaced out over a longer period of time as Charlotte personnel have been scouting him. My interpretation is they're very very serious about Stauskas.

Stauskas is the first possible #9 pick that we brought in. I hope to see a bunch more next week. We bring in more guys that'll probably go undrafted than actual players thar we might pick.

The myth about the Zeller pick is that his workout sold the front office and that they made a snap judgment on him draining long range shots unconsciously in an open gym. In reality they had been scouting Zeller all year long. The workouts I think are to see in clear focus and in real-time nuances you might not be able to detect on film - both subtle strengths and weaknesses.

It's very telling Clifford admitted to seeing "lots of tape" on Stauskas. They have 2 years of this guy, same as Zeller. These other guys working out don't provide the front office with the luxury of the larger sample size and the comfort that comes with it.

I suspect this pick will come down to Stauskas, Harris or McDermott. I'd be willing to bet money on it. The only wild card is if Randle falls to 9 and I can't see it with the Kings looking to trade out for a win-now player at 8.

Then why did they draft a guy they watched suck at shooting jumpshots for 2 years and throw him into a stretch 4 role? Either we suck at drafting or our coach is a moron. I know which way I'm leaning.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
