the first listen of the album had me feeling like all of the songs blended into one. it seemed just "okay".

Completely agree on this, I was actually fairly disappointed after the first listen but it's a really good album. Like you said, I love the diversity of his flows/deliveries, even though I prefer when he's at his most agressive personally (I'm one of the very few that preferred Summer Knights over 1999 because of that).

It's not a transcendent album, he's not doing anything that I haven't heard before, but he does it extremely well and it's still a very good album. I think Lupe's album ended up being the better one though, which I would never have expected.

Yeah, you probably are one of the very few. I also prefer his 1999-sound over his aggressive personality in the long run.

Still not ready to listen to Lupe. Will keep monitoring the reception it gets once the initial surprise wears off. He's been disappointing to me the last few years.

Yeah I've hated everything he's put out from LASERS onwards, but he finally got to do something with minimal input from his label and it shows. No more poppy choruses and godawful production, it's a relief for sure and I greatly encourage you to give it a chance.

Lamar, this is for you, (you've probably heard this but if not...) Old school hip hop songs about NBA mixed with interviews and sound bytes all over beats.

OK, serious talk fellas... this is the most brilliant thing I've ever heard. If this has been around for ages and nobody told me, I am very disappoint. If someone tried to tell me and failed to convey the message, I am very disappoint. So much magic in this track.

The 24-28 minute marks just jammed packed with goodness - the Magic track, then the Sonics track then the incredible Sixers track. "1,2,3,4,5 sixers, 10,9,8,seventy sixers"

Lamar have you checked out the new disc by your name-cousin Kendrick Lamar?
The monumental Mortal Men, where Kendrick "converses" with Tupac using old interview snippets, is instant classic:

will you say that I should go to hell for being such a snobbish-backpacker-hiphop-fan if don't listen to Kendrick?

once upon a time, before he was big, somebody said he was very good and I was encouraged to listen to Section.80 in its entirety. did not like it.

after good kid, maad city blew up, I eventually gave the best songs a listen on youtube. did not like them.

so, yes, I categorize him among the rest of the today's rappers in their 20s who aren't exactly mainstream, yet are accepted by a wider audience and whose style I don't like.

I don't know... perhaps, my snobbish nature has subconsciously prevented me from enjoying his work.

Ha ha I think that's hysterical and awesome! I was just curious cuz you're pretty consistent about commenting on new releases you like, and have such a concise taste in music (as in basketball) was wondering if you dig Kendrick, who is getting all sorts of headlines for this new disc. Duly noted!

well, thanks for the praise on my in-forum reviews. I'll be sure to give it a listen if the hype around the album is enormous like last time. There's a certain point at which even my stubbornness breaks.

Im kinda amazed no one is talking about the insane new Kenrick Lamar album...To Pimp a Butterfly. its the kinda album that you need to listen to it all together its like would be art piece. my only complain is its mostly too smart for his own good.
