i dont think anybody hates marvin, but i am shocked to find out people root for him. what has he ever done to be worthy of admiration (speaking from an on the court standpoint, because i have a good feeling he is probably a fantastic guy in the locker room)?
marvin is basically the same player he was 9 year ago. he never improved. he never worked on his game. he never made the concerted effort to refine his body and skills to become either a small forward or a power forward. if he wanted to become a small forward he should have developed his dribbling passing and shooting (only very recently has he shown a small improvement in 3pt shooting). if he wanted to become a power forward he should have added strength and worked on his rebounding. he is a miserable rebounder for a power forward and barely an average rebounder for a small forward.
the comparisons to a forward version of gerald henderson are spot on, only if henderson was older and his body was breaking down due to injuries and he didnt have a nasty streak.
and all that being said, marvin is a OK player to have on your roster because he is able to play both forward spots, he can shoot a little and he seems to be a great teammate. buy holy crap, you dont give that guy 7 **** million a season.
at best marvin should be making 4 mil.
I've always been a Marvin fan, and followed his career since I first found out about him in Slam mag, in about 03-04, I was stoked when he committed to the tarheels, and stoked when he won the '05 NCAA tourney with them.
Marvin is a versatile player, he can play both the 3 and 4, he shoots it well, he moves the ball (although doesn't generate assists), he can defend 2-4 and rebounds decently (though not at a great clip)
He's ridiculously unselfish and from every article, interview etc, you could tell the guy is all class.
He's not a great player, he's a good player though and is not deserving of the hate for being picked second, people can hate on his development all they want, but it would have been hard on those Atlanta teams which were 90 percent swingmen or bigs.
This guy will start for us until either Zeller or Vonleh are ready, it's a stop gap but in terms of stop gaps, this guy is pretty good.
Also I wasn't aware that model professionals, who are class people, didn't deserve adoration?
Maybe we should all just adore woman bashers like Stephenson because "he has talent"
