Mitch Kupchak mentioned on the Hornets Hive Cast today that Cody Martin is fully healthy and practicing. That was nice to hear.

Fischer from Yahoo Sports is reporting that Valanciunas, Powell, Hunter, Morris, and Wright are all being shopped on the trade market.
I'm interested in Powell if we can move Terry for him.

Re: Offseason Thread
I'm pretty optimistic about next season. I'm really hoping we finally get some health / availability luck. If so, we get a full season of Melo, we get to add Brandon Miller, Cody Martin, and likely Miles to our wing depth from last season, and we now finally have a legit rim protector in Mark. Add in another offseason of development for McGowens and hopefully a rotation piece emerges out of JT, Kai, or Bouk plus the new guys (NSJ or Bailey, Nnaji I think is a ways off).
Even ignoring our FA decisions, that is a lot of new pieces and with health and availability that's a totally different caliber of team compared to last season. Feels like we could be poised for a leap.

Re: Offseason Thread
This is basically the 2021/22 43 win team* with a more experienced Melo, a shiny new Brandon Miller and a legitimate rim protector and defensive force at the 5.
If healthy this team will push 50 wins. We are flying WAAY under the radar with the bookmakers having us as the equal second worst team next year with Detroit lol.
Only Washington is rated a worse chance than us and Detroit of winning the championship.
*Assuming we bring Miles, PJ and possibly DSJ back

Yeah I don't know about others but personally for me this is the most excited I have been for the Hornets in a long time. We legit have a young core of players to build around now. I think people sleep on us because they don't realize we are getting Miles Bridges back. He's not just another player, he's a legit fringe allstar kind of talent. Then you add Miller who was the #2 pick.
We now got talent on this team. It feels good.

Our main issue will continue to be health. Gordon probably gonna miss significant amount of time. Same with Lamelo. Terry and to a lesser degree Miles are empty stat players. I really wanna make the playoffs next year but realistically, the NBA is deeper than ever.
Honestly the only east teams we are objectively better than in the east are the Pistons and the Wizards.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Re: Offseason Thread
*waits for Mitch to **** the bed over the next 3 weeks*
Pressure is on Mitch to pull this roster together, resign the key guys, find a pointbguard and free up the log jams.
Or we find out our new owners are cheaper than MJ and don't care about winning and only see this as an asset in the portfolio.
Or Cliff really is incapable of creating an efficient offense.
Or **** injuries...
But otherwise, no more excuses for this franchise and group of players. The talent is there for 38 - 48 wins. 6th seed should be the goal this season.

4. Miles- Thor
5. Mark- Nick - Kai

Yeah just showing where things stand now on paper. We still have two open roster spots and 20 million in cap space. Plus maybe the full MLE.

Re: Offseason Thread
A few extra names I would be monitoring if I were hornets FO.
Jason Preston- Clippers have 16 players, need to cut one.
Kilian Hayes- Maybe a Bouk for him swap? they have Monte, Sasser and Cade to play point.
Kira Lewis- NOP apparently shopping him.
I still like Ayo as a big defensive backup pg.

Re: Offseason Thread
Theo has to be ahead of NSJ in terms of backup PG. Or else it will be Terry
. If the plan is nick, Just go ahead and forfiet the season. If Melo misses any time, good lord.

Why do you keep repeating this? Didn't they already extended an offer to Theo?

Re: Offseason Thread
So far we're having another underwhelming off-season. We need to make a consolidation trade, hasn't happened. We need to lock down Miles and PJ, hasn't happened. We need a backup point guard, hasn't happened.
We need to know that new ownership actually cares about putting a winning product on the court, but so far there's no evidence to support that. We feel like an investment vehicle masquerading as an NBA team. We're basically a farm team for the rest of the league as far as I can tell.

We'll see. I don't really care who's better today, I care who's better in 2-3 years.

For Eason yes
For Duren, hard to say since Mark is on the team, but yes in a vacuum.

Re: Offseason Thread
We included some of our own picks to make moves for all these dudes.fatlever wrote:so what was the final haul from the duran trade?

The final haul from Duren alone (#13 last year) is picks #27, #39, #41, #53 this year, and 2024 NYK. We used #27, and #41 to draft NSJ and Bailey. We attached #39 to #34 (which is our only return from Jalen McDaniels) to move to #31 for Nnaji. We seem to have swapped the 2024 NYK 2nd for a NOP/POR 2027 2nd as part of that Jalen trade as well. #53 this year was attached to last year's Charlotte 2nd to trade up for McGowens.
So all in all- we traded Jalen McDaniels, 2022 #42, along with the ability to draft any of Duren/Griffin/Eason/Agbaji
for
NSJ, Nnaji, Bailey, McGowens, and a 2027 2nd
More than anything, this is just a waste of roster spots. We have 7 players that should ever sniff the floor in a playoff series in the immediate future and decided to commit 4 more roster spots to fringe/projects, when we're already trying to figure out Kai/Thor/Bouknight... it makes no sense.

Re: Offseason Thread
The weird thing is we traded #13 in part because we had too many young players.
And then we turn around this draft and pick 4 young players.
While simultaneously thinking, at least as of a few months ago, that this is a playoff team if everyone in healthy.
Yet we've added 0 veterans including our own FA's, not counting Miles coming back.
Despite wanting to run back the same team, because we're a playoff team if healthy.
So nothing makes any sense.
We have too many young players, yet spend half our roster spots on teenagers/projects.
We're gunning for the playoffs, yet acquired no veterans or resigned our own free agents of a supposed playoff team.
Hopefully this is due to the ownership change, which will lead to a cleanout. And instead of not knowing what they're doing, we're acquiring young cheap talent instead of committing future money (besides Melo). Which would actually be a good idea, if they actually have a plan.
