Kevin (NC)

Who should bobcat select in this draft why?
Chad Ford
(2:00 PM)

I think McLemore would be the perfect pick for them. Gives them an elite scorer at the two to pair with MKG. I'd love that combo.

Maybe I'm going to have to watch McLemore a little more. I'm just not sold on him being an elite scorer in the NBA. The role he plays in the Kansas offense harshly reminds me too much of Xavier Henry whom I never was big on. As of today, I wouldn't be happy if McLemore was our pick. That's subject to change (or not).

Chad Ford's Evaluation of Ben McLemore:

Positives
Super athletic wing
Explosive leaper
Good shooter with deep range
Super quick release on his jumper
Very smooth athlete
Good rebounder for his size
Has both length and quickness of defensive end

Negatives
Needs to add strength
Old for his class
Can be inconsistent :noway: (might as well keep Hendo)

Chad Ford must have a much vaguer definition of elite than I do. Also, Ford is a choad. It does look like McLemore has all the physical tools to be an elite scorer but I don't know if it's in his nature to be one nor have I seen enough of his handles to get a good feel for them.

Saw Anthony Bennett murder Cal-St Bakersfield today. Very interesting prospect. Definitely in Top 5 conversation. I'll bust out some game notes later but long story short: on offense he looks like a stud (3's, dunks, left-handed hook, you name it) but on defense (especially transition) his motor runs on idle. Disconcerting.

I want Bennett desperately on this team even if he is slightly undersized. He is a beast.

how many people here are rooting for us to get either (or both) the portland and detroit picks this year? how many are rooting for both picks to fall to us next year? one pick now, one pick later? both picks to fall in unprotected 2016?

when do you want to see us send a pick to chicago? this year? 2014? 2015? unprotected 2016?

pick protections

portland pick - top 12 protected in 2013, 2014 and 2015, unprotected in 2016.
detroit pick - top 14 protected in 2013, top 8 protected in 2014, top 1 protected in 2015, unprotected in 2016
our pick to chicago - top 12 protected in 2013, top 10 protected in 2014, top 8 protected in 2015, unprotected in 2016

best guess as of right now is we get portland in 2013, we get detroit in 2014 and we give chicago ours in 2015.

http://www.nba.com/magic/cohen-8ball-it ... 913?page=1

according to this link (and as many have talked about for many months, the 2014 draft could be the most loaded draft in the past 9 years).

personally i would like to get the portland pick next year rather than this year.

our nightmare scenario would be getting portland this year, getting detroit in 2015 and giving up our pick to chicago next year, giving us 0 picks in the most stacked draft in the past decade.

I want both picks from Detroit and Portland next year so we can a) use them in what is shaping up to be a phenomenal class and b) use them to potentially trade up in what is shaping up to be a phenomenal class.

At the rate we're going, barring injuries/busts/etc, we hopefully won't be anywhere near the lottery and won't be too worried about developing young talent--limiting the pain of losing the pick.

I hate doing things like this, but say we add someone like Len this year and use our pick plus the combined value of the other two next year and wrap up Wiggins/Randle?

Kemba
Wiggins
MKG
Randle
Len

(I know it will never happen and is silly to speculate about, BUT that would be the scariest young team in the league assuming they all reach their relative ceilings)

I think to answer to Fat's question depends on if we want to be realistic. Realistically with the way Portland is playing right now we need their pick this year. Add another first round pick, a free agent or two, and another year of growth for Lillard and Portland's pick in 14 may very well be early twenties. Detroit's pick we want next year definitely, because we definitely do not want to add a year 14 lottery pick to that core of Drummond, Monroe, Knight, and whoever they get this year. So my answers to that question is....

Our pick to Chicago in 15.
Portland pick in 13
Detroit pick in 14

I hate to be pessimistic, but I think we will still be a lottery team next year in the 6-9 range. If the ping pong balls were to land for us in next years draft and net us Parker or Wiggins that would be absolutely insane.

We'll more than likely still be alottery team, but weirder things have happened than the 6th team winning the lottery. The league does owe us a #1 pick remember.

(of course Stern will screw us with the #1 this year so it's moot, but you get my drift)

Stern will give Seattle the #1 pick next year since if he gave it to them this year it would be too obvious, and then Wiggins will be their version of Kevin Durant.

I guarantee it.

Stern won't be there in 2014.

Thanks. Big Anthony Bennett fan. Would be nice to finally have a half decent PF on this team.

It's been the Khem Birch show so far. That guy looks like he's on cocaine and red bull compared to how he played against Bakersfield.

2 big time jams by Bennett so far. Moser coming back has cut into his minutes a bit.

Forget a 2-way SG. We need a 2-way C/PF. Our frontcourt offense and defense is beyond pitiful. Nerlens Noel might be our best fit if Alex Len doesn't look cut out for it come March Madness.
