Wow! What a game....

I don't mind saying I teared up a bit when Donovan scored...

The whole time I was thinking that Algeria were gonna score at least one and that we would eventually need two. The defense looked all kinds of shaky today. I saw an interesting stat on the ESPN game tracker. The last clean-sheet for a US team in the World cup? 1-0 vs England 1950. Hopefully we don't go 60 years in between clean-sheets again.

His namesake, Edison Arantes do Nascimento agrees with you. Here's a picture of the original Edison:

Congrats on you guys winning the group.
Once again those refs had stolen a goal from you guys but Donovan made it happen in the 92nd minute.

BTW: If we do beat Ghana then we'll most likely win the group(as long as Serbia doesn't beat Australia 6-0 or something like that) and play England in the round of the last 16.

i cant take any more heartattacks. that was insane. fantastic game to watch with both sides going end to end. that's soccer at its best.

damn refs have to stop stealing our goals.

bornstein was actually decent... meaning he didnt make any costly mistakes. i'll take it.

Thanks to Oezils goal we've won the group and will now play England.

And you guys will play Ghana because Serbia lost to Australia.

Should be a fun game against England and i'd say we'll go to penalties and move on to the quarter finals. :P

Congrats Det, congrats all us people here. I am sorry for Bizz, it is tough for Slovenia to be knocked out like that in final minutes.

Edit: Typo.

How confident are we going into the game against Ghana?

You should be confident, cause you've won your group and there's a pretty good chance to even make it to the semi-finals for you guys.

I mean, one out of USA, Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea will make it to the semi-finals.

Germany's got a tougher way there with England and, if we do go on, most likely Argentina waiting in the quarter finals.

how confident are we going into any game? we can seemingly hold our own against anyone and get beat by anyone.

(although I only watched the second half thinking it matches of Group E will be played first today) Wow, what a game, btu they totally deserve it. I am glad that unwatchable Italy is out. Italian didn't deserve to advance with playing well for about 15 minutes in second half and using every dirty trick including repeatedly attacking opposite goalie. No matter that there were some calls which will be discussed a lot, simply karma.

Now both finalists of the 2006 WC have been knocked out in the group phase of this years world cup.

Like Doc said, Italy absolutely deserved to be knocked out, cause they played very bad and it would've been crazy if they'd made it to the last 16 with three draws.
I had also been rooting for New Zeeland, to bad they couldn't score to make it out of the group phase.

BTW: The dutch should be happy about that, cause they would've played Italy and i'm pretty sure they would've lost to them.

I thought Italy would reach the quarterfinals just to get beaten by Spain. Now i´m pretty nervous,we´re playing in an hour with Chile and we have a though game when facing either Portugal/Brasil in the next phase. But first we have to win and after the first two games...I´m still confident on this team but...

Anda Italy has always been the master of tricks,in Spain 82 they moved to the next round with three draws, guess who won that championship?

Torres is one of the best strikers of the world, when fully in shape.
Though, thanks to all those injuries he's had this year he's nowhere near being 100% in shape and it just shows.

BTW: Looking forward to the knockout stage, especially that clash between Germany and England on Sunday.

Biased against the one guy who plays outside of Spain eh? How Italian of you... :D

Torres does look pretty bad right now, but he's clearly still working back from the injuries...

And I just REEEEALLY screwed myself by making 3 of my 4 allowed transfers thinking they'd take place this round instead of next, I'd just have to sub them in. Balls.

I can't say I'm shocked we're out right now. Teams with dodgy central defenders don't last long in the World cup. Would've been interesting if we had a healthy Gooch and Charlie Davis. That said, the future is bright. Bradley is 22, Jozy is 21 I think, Torres is 22, Davies is 23. We have literally hundreds of u-20s in Europeans teams or academies right now when ten years ago most of them wouldn't even be playing in MLS, and 10 years before that there wasn't even an MLS to not play in.

Rico Clark is getting a new orifice on the soccer blogs/message boards right now and it's too bad. I felt bad for him actually. I can understand hating a guy because hes lazy or doesn't care but this is clearly not the case with Rico. He's just an MLS guy who doesn't have experience playing at such a high level and it showed.

Anyway, this cup has to be seen as a success, it's only the third time we've gotten out of a group in the modern era. Depending on what happens in the next 3 years it wouldn't be crazy if we got a seed at the next World Cup.
