Dabo seems like a decent dude; just picked the wrong school. When Clemson fires him in a few years, he can come coach WR's at SC.

 @ 92 in that SC picture.

I heard Tommy Bowden was at the game tonight with the WVU crowd; I bet he was laughing his ass off.

Cougars 69 ...

I wonder if we can order these? I'd love to have my Carolina Cougars Carroll jersey. Only true way to represent your super fandom.

there is some really good stuff about LB in that ABA book (written in 1990 for perspective). his first coaching gig was with the carolina cougars. it talks about how larry brown and doug moe functioned as a team, both when they were players and later in coaching. larry and doug were best friends, played together at carolina. played together in the aba in new orleans and denver. as soon as larry was hired as coach of the cougars he hired moe as his assistant. the book talks about how even in his first coaching job larry was too intense and often had to be calmed down by moe. larry and moe were polar opposites. moe was his calming influence. moe was the guy who always had to smooth things over with the players after larry pushed them too far. moe was the guy who had to tell larry to back off. larry of course was the xo's guy.

i remember thinking that its a shame brown couldnt have brough moe to charlotte as an assistant (you may remember that he tried but moe said no). he really could have used a doug moe these last 10 years of his career when it seemed he didnt have anyone close enough to either calm him down or do his damage control.

the book also talks about how larry and doug installed the motion offense for the cougars, the same offense moe later installed with the 80s denver nuggets (my fave offense). it required constant passing and cutting to an open spot on the floor. you had 3 seconds to do something once you got the ball or you had to pass it. the motion offense is one of the most basic offenses in basketball. its more of a philosophy than plays. i know larry always preached ball movement when he was here, but he also ran one of the most complicated offenses, with tons of plays and tons of variations of each play and he always wanted plays run to completion. so, i wonder what changed larry to go from such a basic flowing fast offense like the motion to one of strict plays, slower pace. maybe it was moe who was the genius behind the motion with the cougars and thats why he took it to denver. who knows.

larry also said that billy cunningham was the most complete player he ever coached (keep in mind this was 1990 when that was said)

This was one of Australia's most iconic and popular Prime Ministers.
He once held the world record for skulling a yard glass (2.5 pints) Here he is at 82 showing he still has his drinking skills and ability to win over the Aussie public.

Can't wait for the game we play with those ABA jerseys.

Larry was one of the most likeable guys in the book, it left a good impression about his ABA days. The fact that he could have been the best ABA point guard really surprised me considering he's only 5-9. That even got me thinking that our coaching staff and front office could beat our actual team. Let's give them Larry Brown, since we don't have any point guards on our current staff.

PG Larry Brown (13pts/7asts in prime) - PG DJ Augustin
SG Michael Jordan - SG Gerald Henderson (would love to see if Hendo could be head-ache to a prime MJ)
SF Rod Higgins (best year - 15pts/4rebs, career avg - 9pts/4rebs) - SF Corey Maggette
PF Paul Silas - PF DJ White
C Robert Werdann (height - 6-11, 47 NBA games avg 2pts, mostly played in minor leagues) - C Boris Diaw

Bench:

Guard: Ralph Lewis (6-6, 99 NBA games avg 2pts, mostly played in minor leagues) - Kemba Walker
Big: Charles Oakley (even though he's not with us anymore, let's bring him back as a 6th man... would play more minutes than Werdann of course, check in to beat up Mullens) - Byron Mullens

I'd say it's a blow-out by Team MJ.

Same her for a Chargers fan. Second year in a row when acknowledging that the season is over for San Diego, I start to miss out on the last weeks of the season and the playoffs.

What a dilemma for every American sports fan right now. Tough choice between watching the Wolves-Wizards game and the NFL playoffs.
