the way you convince them is by offering them money. if they don't take it, you don't offer their shows and they don't get any money. the reason cable companies don't offer this is because they wouldn't make as much money, but right now intel isn't making money on cable.
at any rate, even the empty threat is good because it will gauge public interest in such a system.
it works not to offer their shows but the minute one of the cable companies doesnt carry viacom or ESPN people hit the roof. so the cable companies end up giving them what they want.
