Cho didn't pick Zeller based on a workout or combine, or reports he read, ranks or mock drafts. It's clear he spent days and months watching Zeller at practices In Person until Zeller practically felt stalked. Cho knew what he wanted. He knew what he was seeing.

That's my man. Wonder if he stalked Kemba too.

Ugh, surely we can come up with a better one than that. I'm sure in time someone will come up with one.

Slam thinks he looks like Hammer's stronger younger brother, once we get to playing it won't take long and he will have a new nickname.

I don't understand this logic. Are you suggesting fans are incapable of recognizing a better basketball talent or good personel moves just because they lack the system of resources NBA executives have? Rod Higgins really went out on a limb there with the Dunlap hire, how did that work out? Jordan stuck out his neck for Adam Morrison. Where is he?

GM's might be more access to be better-informed about prospects, but that doesn't mean they're capable of making the right pick each time. They're making guesses just like you and me.

If Zeller ends up being a stud, then they deserve major props on the pick. I'll quote Tom Sorensen from the Observer:

"Whoever made the pick for Charlotte – Rod Higgins, Rich Cho or both – saw qualities others might not have. If the Bobcats had not taken Zeller fourth, would he have gone fifth, sixth or 13th?

If the Bobcats are right and Zeller is a name-taking, court-running, jumper-hitting and tougher-than-we-think big man, Charlotte’s decision-makers ought to have a job for life.

If they’re wrong, they might be looking for work in 2014."

We had this exchange in the Draft Night Thread the other night. It was Catch-22 who said Z-Rex. Love it.

Absolutely, completely love this pick.

Zeller was BPA and is worth #4 imo, brave move by Cho to the media but the reality is Zeller is both the best player and best fit.

Zeller/Biyombo is an awesome pairing stylistically.

If an NFL draftee showed up to the combine and team workouts out of shape and winded, there would be severe red flags, regardless of his talent, and he would slip in the draft.

McLemore apparently did just that. He didn't fall to 7 because teams reached for need over talent. Charlotte would have selected BPA regardless, especially since we don't have a starting shooting guard at the moment

There is no way we went BPA and ended up with Zeller.

According to your perception, probably. But out of Len, Noel, McLemore, and Zeller, all four would have started and filled a need, Rich Cho selected Zeller, which means he thought Zeller was the BPA. Are you saying you have a better eye/done more homework on all the prospects than Cho-net and his $100,000 dollar system?

I am saying without seeing his $100,000 system all I can do is go by the numbers and potential I see. Any system can be completely wrong if you fold bad equations into it. My biggest questions are what it takes into account. Does it factor in the fact that he has not proved he can shoot in a game, that he does not dribble or pass well, or that he will have to completely change his game to a new position? When does it look at the fact that his athletic numbers don't show up on the court and that is why it was such a surprise at the combine? Without seeing the system and equations I don't know what is going on over there. Should he share the analysis? No because if he gets it right or fixed it could give us an advantage down the road. The key will be funneling all the data through the proper regressions and equations to accurately predict what will happen.

going by the numbers? if you want to look at numbers, Cody Zellers PER over 2 years was 30.6

Nerlens: 27.3
Oladipo (only counting his junior year since he sucked before): 28.4
Bennett: 28.3
McLemore: 23.2
Len (also only counting his most recent season since he sucked freshman year): 24,5
Porter (only counting his most recent season to make it fair): 27.3
KCP: 27.7
Burke: 28.7
Muhammad: 21.9

given that PER is merely a box score per minute stat, it couldnt possibly be stats that you're looking at and feeling down about Cody.
