Time to select some elite role players since the core is in place.

Continuing with my theme of relentless defense, Finals experience, and incredibly high BBIQ, I'll break hearts and take Kevin McHale with the Championship Bench pick for the '84 Celtics who came off the bench for most of it and was NBA 6th man of the year, and All-Star (off the bench!), and led the Celtics to a title. I know this player was in mind for the category when fats created it but he simply won't last til my next pick. He is athletic and lengthy enough to handle Durant, Nowitzki, and Garnett and give them fits.

18.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg. 55% FG in only 31 minutes

PG: John Stockton (1992; Dream Team, 2nd team all NBA, 2nd team all Defense, 15.8 ppg, 13.7 apg, 3.0 spg, 50/40/84 %)
SG: Kobe Bryant (2008; NBA MVP, 1st team all NBA, 1st team all Defense, 28.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.8 spg)
SF:
PF: Kevin McHale (1984; All-Star, 6th MOTY 18.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg. 55% FG)
C: Tim Duncan (1998; All-Star, 1st team all NBA, 2nd team all Defense, Rookie of the Year, 21.1 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 2.9 apg, 55% FG)

Yup, I was hoping to save Payton in the All-NBA category so I could pair him with Magic. Let Payton defend all the PGs and let Magic start at SF and play point foward.

I **** LOVE Payton and I still stand behind him as the PG i'd take of the trio of Stockton, Kidd and Payton... over Nash and Paul as well. I'd only put Magic, Curry and Thomas ahead of Payton on my PG list.

i REALLY wanted Payton, but I couldn't find a way to get him after burning my All NBA pick and his rookie year was pretty bloody average. That type of fierce defender is always great to have

McHale was definitely the jewel of that category.

HAHAHA, thats the joy of it. Then the mad scramble to find someone else.

I was in bed last night madly researching on my ipad trying to decide on who to take, I seriously considered just going to sleep and waiting till now to continue researching but that would have held back the draft 8 hours.

Had to remind myself its just for fun, relax, just pick someone you like and move on

I mean at this point it's just a running joke. 3 out of my 4 picks have been taken literally the pick before mine. Not like 3 or 4 ahead. That's whatever, but the one right before mine. I'm sure Gatz will snipe me on the way back around as well.

I did not know VC was eligible for that category.

I wish I'd done a Westbrook - VC - McGrady - Blake - Dwight team.

That would be insane, a lot of frogs all over the court.

McHale is another guy off the team SWedd roster. Tough as nails dude who would drop an elbow in your face if you talked too much ****, but had beautiful post moves to make you look like a damn fool on defense. Although I'm dubious to the belief that he has enough athleticism to stick to Durant, much less give him fits.

Durant is a weakling.

All it would take is one pop in the mouth from McHale to shut him out the rest of the game, especially if it was a critical playoff game.

Loved watching those old finals series and seeing how rough it was. I remember seeing Danny ainge being upset with copping a hit after a shot went down, he picks the ball up and throws it as hard as he can point blank into the dudes back. They start jawing at each other, the ref just tells them to knock it off and continues the game. No tech, no foul called at all.

Later the commentators are saying how bird plays better when he has blood stains on his jersey after he copped a hard hit that opened him up

Team Fats select Manu Ginobili, 2007-08, Southpaw.

19.5ppg
4.8rpg
4.5apg
1.5spg
40.1% from 3pt (on 5.3 attempts/game)
6th man of the year

I'm stoked to select one of my all-time favorite players, one of the most underrated players in history, during his best season as NBA player. Another player who will fit perfectly on a team built for passing, and running the fast break.

Check out the passing

I was so close to picking him with bench pick instead of wade, I sorta wish I did now just to snipe. :)

Kevin Mchale with championship bench is the only one of my picks that would have been sniped so far. I was hoping to get him with my 4th pick, but I didn't really expect it and had an alternate plan that I expected to really be my plan A. Seems like my draft strategy would have worked to perfection so far. My first three picks were going to be Wilt - Rookie (1959/1960) (could have went with rookie TImmy), Durant - Stone hands (2013/2014), and Reggie Miller - closer (2000/2001). I'm pretty sure my 4th and 5th picks will still be on board when it gets back to where I would have been picking.

So I need depth. I can't make up much ground on some of the teams with the "starter" categories I have left, so I'm going for depth and players I can play at multiple positions in multiple situations. More of a fit piece with five elite skills. There is a lot of talent out there on these teams so I'm gonna need a guy to help defend them when it is needed the most.

I'm gonna need him to defend this guy.
Image

and this guy

Image

this guy too

Image

and maybe even this guy if someone takes him.

Image

4 different guys. 4 different positions. 4 different types of players.

ImageImageImageImage

The Worm. The greatest rebounder of all time. One of the best defenders ever. And possibly the craziest mother **** to step foot on a basketball court.

You're probably wondering why I said 5 elite skills. You know the two: defense and rebounding. You might know the third: hustle. Quite possibly the fourth: finishing at the rim in traffic. And the fifth: WHIPPING 7 FOOT TALL PLAYERS ASSES.

He's coming for everyone. Every championship team has to have a crazy guy, well I just went and got the craziest of them all. HIDE YOUR KIDS HIDE YOUR WIFE BECAUSE DENNIS RODMAN IS COMING TO WREAK HAVOC ON EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU.

Dennis Rodman, 88-89, Championship Bench

9Pts/9Rebs/1Blk/1Stl First Team All Defense. Better passer in the post than given credit. Great legs in a wedding dress. And all around demonic presence on the court.

I don't need scorers after my first few picks and I don't even know if he is going to start. But I need a nuclear bomb to deploy at any given moment to disrupt every single thing on a basketball court.

Also, to Coolio and Gatz. Keep sniping me. Just one call away now. Speed Dial #69.

Sorry for the delay. I had to step away during my rage fest over McHale. My daughter had to get shots at the doctor today so bedtime has not been kind to our family tonight.
