Pf or c?

Can he be more than an energy big off the bench?

The dunks are insane. Would be amazing to see him get decent run with Melo throwing lobs.

One good game doesn't change his trajectory. Same questions remain. He's always had the ability to do everything he did, and more.

He needs minutes. The NBA game is never going to slow down for him if all he ever gets is blowout game time where all the end of the bench kids are running around trying to get their buckets before time runs out.

That's it right there, and it's why I've been so pleased to see him get meaningful minutes recently. I don't think it's any coincidence he's showing the first true spark of something decent now that he's getting experience playing alongside rotation-level players in an organized setting.

As for his position it's probably PF/C with a lean towards PF, but that really depends on if he can ever shoot the deep ball. If he can never add a 3pt shot he's going to have to be a C and that won't play to his strengths. PF is his ideal position because he's quick enough to be a big PF on defense and that also allows him to play more downhill on offense, if he can get his shot up to McDaniels' level that would be ideal.

He needs minutes. This season is a wash, unfortunately.

Kai, Bouk (as bad as he is), Bryce, Thor, and Mark Williams should get the majority of the minutes after the all-star break. Unforunately the team will take til March trying to make the playoffs even if 20 games below .500

I have no interest in seeing Bouk get any undeserved minutes. If he wants to play, garbage time or tanking season, then he at least needs to give us a reason. Otherwise, happy for all his minutes to go to bryce, dennis, and theo.

I don't know if anyone else watched the pregame show, but they had a brief segment on Kai's recent growth. Ashley asked him what he brings to the team and his answer was something like "The energy I bring to the game. Whether on the bench or on the floor I try to give some joy to the team" and I absolutely loved that answer. I don't think I've ever heard a player mention giving his team joy before, so it really stuck out in a good way. You can see it too, on the bench he's so happy to be there, on the floor he's full-tilt like he's having the time of his life.

He may or may not end up reaching his potential, but he seems to be a great kid. Very easy to root for him.

He's a polar opposite to Bouknight, who makes you feel like he thinks he's doing us a favour paying him to stink it up all the while displaying an indifferent attitude.

Is it really that hard to coach good screen setting to young bigs? Where is Zeller when you need him,? Lol

Get it sorted Kai, nick, Thor and cliff. Maybe Mark can set a screen. Who knows???

That screen was laughable from someone playing at this level.

These clips would fool anyone into think Kai is a future HOFer

But love to see the progress. Wish Terry passed to him more.

He's working really hard and Cliff is seeing that and rewarding him for it.

Now Bouk on the other hand...eek.

He still looks awkward AF when he drives to the rim and when he pulls up for a jumper or a fade away. I doubt he'll ever be good at shooting off the dribble.

His weak-side rim protection and timing is intriguing though and it's nice to see him hit a few open threes at this level. He's still a mile away but there is something there to continue to explore the possibilities of.

Unlike Bouknight who is a total lost cause.

Couldn't agree more my friend. Kai is playing pretty productively and has tons of room to grow.

I just don't have the same optimism when it comes to Kai Jones as most folks.

I just don't even see the blueprint for him becoming a productive player. He is athletic, but really none of his other skills are NBA ready nor seem close. I liked it better when we used him a screener in GLeague and he was playing the 5. This float around at the 4 and try to impact the game role just seems very hit and miss.

At least Bouknight has moments IMO where he showcases real NBA skill and it's not me holding my breath that the play is going to go hilariously wrong.

I feel like you can't have watched both of them play this season and come away with this take. If you switched the names it would make more sense to me based on how they've played this season.

It would take a miracle for either player to be rotation players on a winning team in their careers. Like Mo Bamba isn’t even there yet, yet Mo is way, way ahead of Kai Jones. I think both players are non-assets and we just wiffed in that draft. I’m glad to see that Kai hasn’t been completely hopeless lately though
