just browsing through the old 2012 Draft Grades thread and its just funny as hell. this draft is such a mirror, missing the top star and cope drafting his obviously limited teammate for muh intangibles, and then redundantly drafting basically the same thing again later in the draft a la Jeff Taylor

different skillsets, same thought processes

I don’t think anyone is saying he will suck completely, he can still be an NBA player but chances are he is just a solid starter/rotation guy and there will be guys drafted behind him that have true allstar potential.

If we had the 8th-10th pick I think almost anyone would be okay with the pick but good chance by year 3 he is mostly an afterthought for his draft class.

Just hard to get excited about him being a top 3 player on this team behind Melo and Miller, so that’s a bit disappointing after landing a top 4 pick. We might not pick top 6 again for 3+years and if Kon doesn’t become a key building block it’s going to really limit this teams upside.

It’s just blood boiling to see Flagg/Harper/Edgecombe all go to much better teams with much more recent success and then we’re left with Kon.

That's quite the stretch. Random 1 second snippet of LaMelo nodding, not evidence that he was involved in the selection other than showing up for the workout and being his normal affable self.

Guy who Kon reminds me of the most, if we are just being honest and not trying to pick an allstar. Bojan Bogdanovic- career 15.6 ppg with a few 20 ppg seasons. 39.5% from three for career- was a 15-20 dunks per year type of guy that played super under control, below the rim and you couldn’t speed him up. Can play some pick and roll but not something you are going to spam. Pretty poor defender with a strong frame low lateral quickness.

We drafted a role player with the #4 pick

Could have traded back with Washington got more assets and still got Kon.

I will say it again I don't trust Peterson. He has no plan. Each year the vision is different. Last year it was upside this year high character guys.

How you pushing high character with Miles Bridges still on your roster?

You can't put faith in someone when they don't even know their own vision.

I completely agree that that's the one area where the front office has been very hypocritical. You can't talk about wanting to change the culture of the franchise and then at the same time push out marketing materials featuring Miles Bridges. So I agree with you there. The miles is confusing at best.

In hindsight, it probably shouldn't have been that surprising that our FO would prioritize Kon given that they signaled a player type they wanted to add in that LAL trade.

Tre was much more similar to Knecht than Knupple

If I had to guess I think the Hornets draft board looked like-> vj, kon, tre

But any concerns about kons Defense should have been equally applied and amplified to tre. Someone who was a Texas fan described his defense as "a burnt orange traffic cone"... "Who gave absolutely zero effort on the defensive side of the ball". He seems to be a hard enough worker and a smart enough dude to understand that if he wants to consistently stick on the floor he's gonna have to defend.

I really think Tre in Washington is going to be like just like Tyrese Maxey in Philly and no one will give a **** about his defense just like they don't about Maxey's

is maxey's defense that bad? It's not much easier to get away with when you have embiid behind you.

Other draft picks in our range rookie year performance put aside, I'll satisfied if he shows better defensive foot speed than a Ty Jerome did in these past playoffs and better on ball creation than a Duncan Robinson or Max Strus.
