Re: Steve Clifford Thread
Steve Clifford on the draft. He's very somber. He honestly doesn't have the energy I thought he would. The whole interview has the vibe that something is still missing from the roster. Clifford kind of hints at wanting versatile players via free agency that gives him the ability to "move people around". It seems like someone like Hayward could be a target and/or Shaun Livingston. He also talks about needing back Josh McRoberts. "We need him back," he says. I'm dying to know if when Stauskas went 8, if Clifford felt like someone punched him in the gut. The team still really needs elite shooting.

Re: Steve Clifford Thread
To me, this year is all about Steve Clifford. While many assume the team will be way better because of the addition of Lance Stephenson, I could see a scenario where we win fewer games. Vets and accurate 3 pt shooters like McRoberts, CDR, Tolliver and Sessions have been replaced by younger players and poorer 3 pt shooters. Continuity and veteran players win in the NBA. It's also at least a possibility that Lance's ball dominant ways don't mesh with Kemba and Al's need for the ball
This is where Clifford comes in. Can he assimilate Lance and Marvin, can he coax wins out of Zeller and MKG? Last year got me pretty excited about Cliff. But this year, I think, is the year where we will see whether he is the next Tom Thibadeau, a guy who can coach anyone in his system, or if last year was a byproduct of historically great team chemistry.
I THINK we got a winner here, a coach we will rally behind for years. This year is when we find out.

Completely agree. We heard last year about how we were seeing a stripped down version of his offensive and defensive schemes because the players weren't ready for them. It's time to see what he has up his sleeve and see whether or not that was all talk.

Re: Steve Clifford Thread
Coach Cliff Q&A http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bas ... n-mkg-more
You've said your first year with the team was about establishing a foundation. What's the second year about?
I think that the biggest thing, when we start in October, that we have to lock in on is starting again from the very beginning. Again, establishing that we're going to be a team that's going to try to play with balance. I think you have to start over every year. Last year, we were very good defensively, but that doesn't mean that we're going to just show up and play good defense this year. We put a lot into it and the guys did a great job with it and we'll have to do that equally as well. But we have to get better on offense. To win big in this league, you have to play well in all aspects of the game.
Lance Stephenson always kind of seemed like a natural in Charlotte if he decided to leave Indiana. When did you first start thinking about him coming to the team?
One of the things that we were looking at was, as an organization, we knew it was important to try to add someone to play through offensively at the top of our roster. And there were a couple trade possibilities that we looked at that didn't work out, and then obviously we tried hard with Gordon [Hayward] and then Utah matched. As soon as that happened, then we were really aggressive about going after Lance.
Obviously Mark's done a lot of work on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's shot, too, and he's someone who a lot of people think would be a star with a good jumper. How do you deal with that situation, in wanting him to have confidence in it and develop it but not wanting him to hurt the team by taking shots that won't be efficient?
Well, I think he's going to be in a different place this year offensively because he spent so much time on his shooting mechanics with Mark this summer. And now the next aspect of his offense is going to be simply those things you talked about — his decision making, when to shoot, when to drive, when to pass. And yet, for him to play really well, his shooting is not going to be the key. His strengths have to remain his strengths. He's got great defensive ability, he's a terrific competitor and he brings an aggressiveness and a competitiveness to the team when he's on the floor. If you look at our team last year, we were a much different team when he was able to play versus during the stretch of games when he got hurt and was out.
He has his way to play, and at the end of the day, for almost every player, playing to your strengths, night in and night out, knowing what you have to do to play well, usually determines the kind of week you have, month you have, season that you have. And he knows what he has to do to play well, and I think that, as he gets older, the challenge for every guy is consistency. He had stretches last year where he was terrific and he had other stretches where he wasn't as good. I do know this: he's had a summer where he's put a ton of work in up on the floor with Mark and then also in the weight room with our strength coach Matt Friia and I think he's ready to have a really good year.

I like Clifford more after every interview I read with him. He hit the nail on the head with that remark about using your strengths to help you stay consistent. We're in a damn good place with this guy Hornets faithful.

King of Sting...WRONG AGAIN .How can you be excited about MKG..MAYBE 5-7 years from now he will be a GW JR. Coach needs to get his butt upstairs and tell MJ/CHO he needs another SF and trade off a SG...perferrably PJ "Trouble" Hairston before it's too late and he's doing 5-10 with Fats at Central Prison in Raleigh...

Coach sees what MKG brings and knows he helps the team like everyone who watches the team can see. Half the guys you want to trade for can't hold MKG's jockstrap and you are in love with them.

BB doesn't believe in MKG either. This man said it'll take 5-7 years to become a poor man's crash

Re: Steve Clifford Thread
The point is MKG hasn't lived up to his #2 draft status and this is the start of his third season.
The second point is bringing in a solid ''rounded" SF like Aminu to compete with MKG makes sense.
The third point is that we have 5 guards on this team LS who is suppose to be the answer as starting SG,Hendo who is suppose to be security if LS is a bust, Neal who is suppose to be a 3pt ACE.? JT who knows with his injury,
and PJ who knows if he will get jail time or parole but Cuban maybe interested in a trade.
I'm a Fan of Coach Clifford, but I feel Aminu is more suited to his teaching style than PJ who has trouble written all over him.

How on earth is Al-Farouq Aminu well-rounded? He has less offense in his arsenal than MKG, rebounds as well, and is nowhere close defensively.
investigate Adam Silver

Can you explain your fats going to jail with pj comment? Are you talking about our fats or someone else
