Also, I would like to know the success rate of Kemba running a pick & roll with Jefferson and/or Biyombo. I'm sure that the pick & roll between Kemba & Jefferson has a PPP of over 1.0. The majority of the pick & rolls I have seen involving Kemba this season have actually been pick & pops with McRoberts, usually resulting in either McRoberts shooting a 3-pointer or going into the 'handoff' set if he isn't comfortable with shooting from the beyond the arc upon receiving the pass

here are some numbers per mysynergysports.com

kemba 37% of the time kemba has the ball its in pick and roll (highest of his usages percentages). we are scoring 0.66 points per possession on those plays (which is awful). for comparison, he scored 1.16 ppp in isolations and 1.13 ppp coming off screens (not as ball handler) and 1.07 ppp in hand-off situations.

kemba is shooting 33% on shots as the ball handler in pick and roll situations.

overall when kemba has the ball we score 0.82 ppp, compared to 0.88 ppp for mcroberts.

perhaps i am misunderstanding these numbers, so feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

What's the points per possession for when Kemba and Jefferson run pick-and-roll? I really would like to know. I wonder if there's somewhere on MySynergySports that could be deciphered.

for what it's worth Big Al has been involved in only 16 pick-n-rolls that end in him shooting, getting fouled or turning the ball over. I would imagine almost all of them have involved Kemba as it's only 16 plays.

He's been 9 for 15 in them and was fouled once - it accumulates to 1.25 points per possession, a great number.

I knew it. I called at least 1.0 PPP. Why Clifford doesn't have Kemba & Jefferson run pick & roll with each other over & over after seeing the obvious success from it is beyond me. Great job 'LamarMatic7'. You're still my favorite poster on here, not to exclude any others though. I like you all the same :D

I have to say that you saying that actually made me feel really good :D. Thanks.

Of course, we already had a similar exchange a couple of weeks ago and I can once again say that I feel similar about the content you post.

Thanks Lamar. It's a success. I called it gold

I'm assuming that Clifford doesn't like pick-and-roll since it isn't a fixture in our offense. The rookie HC need to get it together. I appreciate what he's done for our defense though.

I can only guess that his thinking behind this is that you shouldn't involve Big Al in pick-n-rolls too much since it isn't his primary game, let the man post up.

However, as we've all seen he can get an open jumper any time he wants in the pnr with Kemba. It's not really a pick-n-pop, not really a pick-n-roll either, but the timing those two have had has been great. Al knows when is the moment to roll to the basket and at which place he should stop.

I would definitely prefer him taking those PnR jumpers than the times he simply receives the ball at the elbow and fires it up after two seconds of hesitation.

I would be fine with him averaging 15 and 6, but do it efficiently not shooting in the low 40's

15p,6ast and 45% shooting would make me happy

the stats lamar referenced for jefferson only include the pick and roll situations where jefferson was passed the ball ended up taking a shot. in those situations the scoring is great, based on the small sample size. however, it does not reference the situations where jefferson and kemba ran a pick and roll and kemba kept the ball and took a shot. those situations would be included in kemba's numbers - 0.66 points per possession.

there are a lot of variables that we dont have access to without a paid subscription to synergy, so its hard to fill in the gaps.

what i think we can conclude is that when kemba comes off a pick and roll, he needs to either do a better job of hitting the roll man or a better job of finding his own scoring opportunities.

i've pointed out in the game threads numerous times this year that kemba's 1st instinct coming off a pick when he has the ball is to shoot. many times he settles for a contested mid-range jumper (often off-balance) rather than driving into the paint, looking for the roll man, looking for a shooter or resetting the offense.

Can Kemba ever average 8 assists per game for a whole season? I'd bet $100 he won't.
