This is American politics in action. Know that most anyone's thoughts and actions can be controlled by money. If politics are infiltrating the sports world, these people are controlling everything.

On a side note, why aren't college players getting paid some of this 3.76 billion dollars North Carolina was threatened to miss out on? :noway:
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

NBA and NCAA arent going to commit to anything in NC until they see which way the public wind is blowing after this half-repeal of HB2.

NBA Commish Adam Silver: After #hb2 repeal deal, Charlotte will be eligible to host 2019 All-Star Game

@katieperalta
Silver says that CLT hosting ASG in 19 is "not a done deal yet" --NBA will have an non-discrimination policy partners will have to sign onto

April 7, 2017 – The Charlotte Hornets released the following statement today:

“We are excited that the NBA has once again made the City of Charlotte eligible to host All-Star Weekend in 2019. We look forward to resuming our discussions with the league on the next steps regarding this international event. We know that our city, our fans and our business community remain extremely enthusiastic in support of hosting NBA All-Star Weekend.

Additionally, as stewards of Spectrum Center, we are pleased that the NCAA and ACC have chosen to allow previously-scheduled tournament games to remain in our arena and to allow us be considered for future events. Whether it is sporting events, concerts or family shows, Hornets Sports & Entertainment remains committed to providing the best possible entertainment to our city and takes great pride in the fact that Spectrum Center serves as an economic engine for Charlotte.

The Charlotte Hornets and Hornets Sports & Entertainment remain opposed to discrimination of any form. As we always have, we will continue to provide an inclusive environment for anyone attending an event at Spectrum Center.”

Meanwhile, the LGBTQBLTBETFUBAR community is nowhere closer to getting what they wanted other than kicking the can down the road. Hmm, it's almost like nobody really cared about them in the first place and it was all political posturing during a pivotal election year in a battleground state...

We have more problems statewide and nationwide to be focusing on denying LGBT basic rights. House republicans should just concede this and move on to education. For all the "less government" you guys preach it sure is nauseating creating laws that don't need to exist

Not by as much as BDave mis-characterized the realities behind HB2.

Care to point out the errors of my way?

I haven't read a single account of a LGBT affiliated person or politician that's happy with this repeal. The repeal is basically just HB2 with the "have to use the bathroom corresponding with the gender on your birth certificate" part taken out, which is the way the law was basically interpreted before Charlotte passed explicit legislation for folks to pick and choose. Before HB2: Implied that people had to use the bathroom corresponding with their birth gender (Otherwise why else prompt the CLT ordinance?) --> Charlotte ordinance: Makes bathroom choice explicit --> HB2 passed: Overturns CLT ordinance and makes previously implied bathroom customs explicit --> HB2 repealed: Explicitness of bathroom protocol removed and made implicit again, LGBT rights to be reexamined years later for some different politicians to risk their careers drawing battle lines over.

It's a complete full-circle. Nobody cares about LGBT rights, not the NC government, not the CLT government, not the NCAA, nor the NBA. The LGBT folks still lost their non-discrimination ordinances. Everybody just got tired of losing money:

Rep. Carl Ford, R-Rowan, told colleagues in the House chamber, "If we could have props in here, I’d take a basketball, cover it in money and roll it down the middle aisle there because that’s what this is about: money and basketball."

I strongly disagree with the assertion that Charlotte's ordinance was not at all concerned with protecting LGBT rights. I also strongly disagree with your previously articulated assertion that the state's response had nothing to do with opposition top LGBT rights. I get that you think LGBT rights are a political football and no one cares about them one way or the other, but I strongly disagree.

Yeah, no one is really happy with the compromise, but that doesn't mean that no one cares substantively about the issue.

That there are people that care about LGBT rights, and that there are people that view LGBT folks as partaking in a sinful lifestyle? Really?

I assure you that there are a lot of people that genuinely care about this issue, whether pro or con.

See now you're moving the goalposts, which is exactly why these conversations go nowhere

BDave said no one cares about LGBT rights. I said they do. You called me naive. Where did goalposts get moved?

Well technically I should have said that people ultimately care about money more than LGBT rights but that effectively looks the same as nobody caring about LGBT rights since politics is so inextricably tied to money these days. If all these businesses and entertainers really felt as strongly about LGBT rights as they think they do, worth boycotting over, then they should keep up their boycotts (in states and countries with similar legislation no less) b/c this repeal is just HB2 with intentional vagueness and a TBD later on actual 'progress' for LGBT folks.

Here's an article that pretty much confirms my interpretation of the situation to a tee:

The HB2 repel did nothing for the LGBT community but they were never in the cards. Anyone that follows NC politics could see that type of reverse is course was just not possible, it was like pulling teeth to even get it repelled
