The NBA salaries are due for a market correction.

Quite simply, salaries have to catch up to revenues. They are lagging so far behind other sports, the gap is so large between rich owners and the players who enrich them.

NBA agents are growing more astute and players are getting smarter about their representation.

So we can pay him even more and eat more into our cap space when Kemba needs an extension and Al can opt out next year?

This sounds like an excellent idea...

This offer has nothing to do with the S&T parameters. This is just the deal either us or the Jazz will pay if we can't work out a S&T by midnight. If we can, we can renegotiate the contract with Hayward, of which he will sign work the Jazz before being sent our way. It's unlikely he takes less, but he may agree to take out the trade kicker.

Lol Paul Pierce.

The general trend is, as team revenues escalate in team sports, agents devise calculations to win their clients a greater share of those revenues. Contracts values are increasing significantly in this market due to the rising revenues around the NBA. This market has formed in the wake of a 2 billion dollar sale of the Clippers.

MJ has been recently declared a billionaire, you know, the guy who bought the LOLcats. This 'overpay' to Hayward represents a little revenue sharing so to speak. It's MJ's money, there's no short supply. The GM knows the importance of the rebrand and the implications of compelling fans to pay money for tickets and follow the team.

When my phone call came in yesterday, I told you we were close.

The fans have already paid for talent, what shape that talent takes is up to the GM.

They still are not comparable. The existence of the cap makes your argument about the profitability of NBA franchises moot. It doesn't matter how much the Clippers sold for or how much money MJ has if we have to obey the cap rules regardless.

Lol Paul Pierce.

He wants 10 million...I'd rather pay Gordon 16 million than Paul's corpse $10,000,000

Also, I told you guys Gordon Hayward is their #1 target and I called it before free agency began.

The range shooting gap was never filled - no Afflalo and or Stauskas/McDermott.

Chandler Parsons is my guess as 'Plan B'.

Houston will not match a max to Parsons if they sign Bosh (I feel Melo is far less likely and they know it). A trade of Parsons + Lin is still alive imo. Brian Roberts as your 3rd stringer.

I'd take Paul Pierce at 2-years/$10 million before I'd stand beside Gordon Hayward at 4-years/$63 million ($15.75 million annually)

We'll happily get to watch Hayward average 15 points while shoot 30% from the 3-point line, 4 assist, and 4 rebounds amid making almost $16 million a year. This deal is worst than the one the former Hornets matched to keep Eric Gordon

The truth has plenty of game left and would be a perfect fit for our team. We would all benefit if he took MKG under his wing

The Clippers sale, the markedly increased value of the Hornets franchise (and Jordans portfolio) are merely indicators. In my opinion, in this market we're seeing how agents and front offices anticipate an increase in cap to reflect escalating revenues and higher valuations. The agents have plenty of bargaining chips at their disposal. You can't hoard money from attorneys.

'The Truth' is better than Hayward right now at one-third of the price

Utah has already stated that they plan on matching Charlottes offer so to continue talking about him is almost pointless.

I think Charlotte will go hard after Parsons and Stephenson next.

Sounds good to me, at the very least we can lock the Rockets into a core of Howard, Harden, and Parsons. That said I'd rather we go after the guy in our own conference, Stephenson, to weaken the Pacers. The Rockets aren't an obstacle to us. If Bosh does go to Houston though that changes things, I think we should make a strong offer to Parsons in that case.

C'mon LP, have a little fun. In 2007 or 2008, the Yankees front office swore publicly they would let Alex Rodriguez walk if he opted out of his contract. He opted out and his agent got ahold of the owner and worked a 10 year, 275 million deal when Alex was 32 years old.

What's my point?

What a front office/organization says in public doesn't always reveal their true intentions.

Until I see Utah match it, I refuse to believe it. They have enough talent on their roster at the wing already. They can lose without Hayward. No need to add his $16 million contract to continue being bottom feeders in the Western Conference

Jazz have 24 million in cap room, and unlike our beat writer their beat writer actually does work and has already spoken to the organization and has been told that they will match Charlottes offer. So unless that changes in the next 24 hours then they will probably match.

Im just going by what their beat writer said. I hope they don't match, but Im tempering my expectations.
